hello,

i m wondering how should i send all my papers. i have a cover letter in the front and all the rest of the forms. my question is how should i send it, just in an envelope, or put them in a binder first, or attach them together.

I would recommend binding all documents with an ideal clamp.

Then send via USPS Priority Mail flat rate envelope...with signature confirmation. It is, by far, the cheapest way to go.

Could he also use a Binder Clip (depending how many documents there are)?

Note 6: In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

a. Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.

b. Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

c. The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.

d. Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.

e. Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required (Forms I-94, Labor certifications, etc). Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

Yea I thought about the acco fastners, but was weary of putting holes in the documents...some would be okay, but others would have put holes right on some of the words. So that's why I went with the binder clips. I did do the tabs at the bottom which corresponded to the cover letter's numbered list of documents also.

Of course do what you are comfortable with, but the reason VJ tells you to do it this way is because that is how it will be put into a file at the Service Center. So it is appreciated because it saves them an extra step...two hole punching at the top does make it so you punch through some of the words on the top of documents, but it's eventually going to end up in a file like that anyway. I did it, with no RFE's and no problems. But again, do what you are comfortable with and binder clips work too (for me however, my stack was too big for any one clip to go over). I would however, do what Aya820 and VJ says and put tabs on the bottom, seperating out different sections (I placed the cover sheet and forms at the front and then put tabs for the rest that were labled: Proof of American citizentship, Proof of having met in person, and Proof of ongoing relationship).

We always used ACCO fasteners and our journey went smoothly! If you don't do it, they do. When i sent in our K1 with an expired application (with binder clip) they returned it to us with the holes and ACCO fastener! I guess they did it before realizing the application was expired. So i re-sent it with the updated application and since then, have used ACCO on all the rest of the applications.
