Hello everyone,

I am tearing out my hair since my biometrics on 10/04/2010.... I know I should be patient but I realized since I moved from the east coast to the west coast 2 years ago... my huge USCIS file is most probably on the east coast somewhere. They would obviously need to transfer it to my local office in LA and then once they get to it, send me the interview letter.

Does anyone have any idea how long the file transfer takes? I know these are all petty details... but I check my online status 5 times a day.. sigh.

thanks for your help!

Yes all the paperwork, evidence since the GC process until now. I had read somewhere that they transfer the files from one location to another to make sure they are in your local office by the time you interview for the N400.

Yes all the paperwork, evidence since the GC process until now. I had read somewhere that they transfer the files from one location to another to make sure they are in your local office by the time you interview for the N400.

Our file was transferred from Nebraska to California that caused a six month delay in our I-751 processing because it was misplaced. You don't have to move to have your file misplaced. Regarding the on-line status, only thing we ever received was the NOA of our application. Gather now they are also sending that confusing RFE letter as well that is driving everyone crazy here when they mean they want your biometrics. After that, you won't hear anything as field offices do not update your status, so you just check your mail box everyday.

If you are tearing your hair out only after a couple of weeks of having your fingerprints taken, you will be completely bald in that two to four months it takes to get your interview letter. Concentrate more on studying your civics questions.

We don't know whether they gather all our old files together but I sort of doubt it. Our old applications were not touched after we filed for citizenship. I can't imagine them wasting their time searching the warehouses through hundreds of thousands of applications for our old files, that's why they ask us for the same info over and over again in new applications!

The average between the NOA and Interview is 89 days, and usually the interview letter comes 3-4 weeks before the interview so that makes over two months between your NOA and Interview letter falling in your mailbox. We have seen that early biometrics doesn't really influence scheduling of the interview date.

In conclusion, you are in normal range so as NickD said, try to relax and not go bald too soon. (F)

Maybe you already know but a nice time-pass while waiting is to go to the tab at the top of this page: Immigration Timelines - Statistics - Citizenship - District Offices. That will give a list of everyone who has filled in their Citizenship Timeline, you can compare easily by clicking on Advanced Mode and going to the bottom to filter the Filing Location and Local CIS Office.

Good luck for a fast interview!

Our panic from the time we sent in our N-400 was constantly checking the status on our I-751, never paid attention to the N-400. When the ten years cards finally came in, already had the interview letter, and here we go again, had to study for that civics test and gather all the original evidence for that interview only to experience an oath letter delay.

Thanks everyone for you help!

Tearing my hair out was a figure of speech :) But I truly appreciate the help. I just wanted to see what you all thought. My biometrics were done early, on the 4th of October... which is probably why the wait has seemed long.

You guys are awesome!

Just for your information and so you can make your own time guesses. I mailed my app. from san diego on 9-14-2010, I had biometrics done early on 10-05-2010, my actual appt was on 10-14-2010, and yesterday I received an email saying my case was transfered to my local office. So you should be getting yours anyday now. good luck
