How can I check the status of the process after getting the NOA2? How do I know when the process gets to the Department of State/ National Visa Center/ Embassy?

You can call their phone number 603-334-0700; Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 AM (Eastern Time). SInce you have just reached this point you will need to talk to a human and give them your receipt number. They can give you information about your case if it has arrived and if it has been sent to the Embassy. I called late in the evening an the wait was not too bad.

As far as the Embassy, you will have to get someone who has dealt with Brazil as each Embassy handles things differently. For example, I read where people get a packet 3 and have to fill everything out and send it back in before the Embassy sends a packet 4 with the interview date. For us, the Emabssy sent an e-mail the day after receiving the information from the NVC and the e-mail contained the interview date, a copy of all required forms, and a checklist of what to bring to the interview.

Congratulations on getting your NOA2. Things should move a bit faster now.

We contacted NVC as soon as we saw online that our petition had been approved. It took about a week for them to find us in the system, and by then our package had already been sent to the embassy. I tracked the package through DHL (there is a link on here somewhere telling how to do that) by estimating our send date and looking for packages going to Brasil. As soon as I saw that it had been delivered, I emailed Rio and asked them about our interview date. They replied right away and told me our date which was about a month away. We received packet 4 (there is no packet 3) a short time later. They will send it out even if you don't contact them. We just wanted to know asap what the date would be so we could make plans. You do not have to mail anything back to them. Everything is turned in at the interview. You will want to schedule your medical around the same time as your interview unless you have a CS in your area, then you can do it anytime. There is a great CS in Rio named Dr. Duarte. He is really helpful and easy to work with. You can start filling out the forms for the interview now as they are all available on the embassy website. Good luck to you!

ya, here's some other info, with a list of stuff you can get -

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

Dodi's posted 'how to call' and further down, I've posted 'what you can get'.

It's a bit convoluted, but IMO, having known status, via telephone, is useful.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
