According to my research online, it is fairly common for the brown envelope to get opened. Unfortunately by fiance has become the latest victim of not being careful. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with getting the information resealed in Germany. Many of the posts are related to the Philippines or UK. Any input would be appreciated. Everything else has gone smoothly for us...and it is really stressful now that everything should have be done, and we are faced with a set back.

He needs to go back to the Consulate, explain what happened. They will review the contents of the envelope to ensure there has been no tampering, and then re-seal it. Hopefully it won't be a big hassle to go back to the Consulate. The envelope has to be sealed when it is presented at the POE (Port of Entry).

When he gets to the POE, the border authorities are supposed to open the envelope. They will review the necessary documents and then forward the contents of the envelope to the USCIS office that services your State. When you get married and your husband files for AOS, the application will be matched up with the file that was turned in at the POE.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply :),

I understand the process of getting the POE resealed, from what I've been reading. I was wondering if anyone had the experience in Germany as far as the time process. He is really beating himself up right now since he booked his flight for two weeks from now. I'll talk to him in a couple of hours and hopefully he will be able to make it to the consulate on Monday. Right now we're just hoping that the resealing doesn't take the estimated weeks and months that we've been hearing about.

Have him bring his proof of travel arrangements with him and ask them if they can do it while he waits - or if he can pick it up at the Consulate in a few days? It shouldn't take any longer than for someone to review the contents to make sure everything that is supposed to be there is and there isn't anything that isn't supposed to be there. It might take a few days to get to a staffer's desk and be fitted into their schedule but with the evidence of travel arrangements and a supplicating attitude hopefully it will take shorter than that.

If someone who has had this experience in Germany sees this, I hope they will reply. I know that the Consulate in Canada works faster than that at re-sealing envelopes opened accidentally. The majority of the time involves getting the envelope back to them and then back to the K-1 holder.

Good luck!

Thank you for the well wishes. I will post updates so that hopefully this will help others in the same situation. Just an FYI..don't use a letter opener..it can snag the sealed envelope and open it :/.

Just got a text from my fiance and he said all went well. He was given a new sealed POE and is on his way. He said he did have to wait a couple of hours, but he will tell me more about it. I will post in more detail tomorrow. I hope this helps someone out there. Apparently in Germany resealing a POE is not too stressful, you just have to make sure the consulate is open lol..
