I am disappointed! Today I received a letter advising that we have an interview appointment. It is frustrating because we live in rural Alaska, having already had to spend over one thousand dollars for biometrics just for me ( involved staying in a hotel because of flight schedules )now we get to double the expense!!

OK rant over ...I was interested if anyone had any ROC interview experiences or advice to give?

Thanks

The majority of ROC interviews we have heard about here on VJ are ones where there is nothing wrong with the application nor is the marriage suspect, rather the interviews are necessary for USCIS statistical purposes - each office must have a certain percentage of interviews conducted as a 'sampling' (I guess). The odds are that you are two of the lucky individuals helping USCIS meet its statistical requirements.

It does suck that you have to travel so far and spend so much money for what will probably be a non-issue event. Regardless, prepare your evidence and bring lots of extra with you, including documents that have come in since you submitted the I-751. Bring everything you can possibly think of needing, especially as you are having to travel that distance, so that on the off-chance it isn't a 'statistical' interview, you will have all of the evidence you need at hand,

Good luck!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks Kathryn,

I am hoping it will be straightforward... we didn't get a RFE.

Just wondering where you are having to travel to for your interview.

I hope it all goes well, despite the expense. :star:

Are you having to fly into Anchorage ? I'm curios myself for the fact we live in Dillingham, AK and we will be looking at around $500 R/T per person if we have to fly into Anchorage in case we get called for an interview.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Hey Why Me,

Yes we have to go to Anchorage from Cold Bay.

Just a heads up in case this would be helpful - when called for biometrics they wanted me to go to Dutch Harbor which was a nightmare. Even though geographically it is nearer than Anchorage the actual logistics from Cold Bay to Dutch meant staying for several days because flying schedule to and from Cold Bay is limited. I called the USCIS in Anchorage and they told me I could go into Anchorage with the biometics letter and they would do that there.

I checked with the uscis site and Dillingham appears to be serviced by Anchorage so I think you will be best prepared for that - It is really a pain in the rear end for sure - I went on my own for Bios but if you plan to go together all I can suggest is to make a small vacation of it! When we get out of the city we tend to make the most of big city !! Not sure what things are like in Dillingham? I know it is a bigger community so you may have a few more facilities.

Hope all goes well in your journey !

I haven't been to Cold Bay, but Iv'e been to Dutch, and I used to work way out on the chain (Shemya Island) near "Attu Island". Dillingham is ####### hole. Grocery's are out of site, along with gas, heating fuel, etc... We have 1 year and 9 months left on the wifes contract here at the hospital and then we are going home (Big Lake, AK). I have family in Anchorage and the Valley so we have free lodging and a car to use when we make it to civilization now and then. It usually means a shopping trips to Costco, Best Buy, etc... but this place sucks big time.

We had an interview too! My advice would be to bring as much evidence as you can and when you think you have enough, bring more! It's also good to over prepare. Also, look through VJ for some of the typical questions that they ask. My husband and I went over them together so we would be ready for anything.
