Consulate Review: Peru
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 13, 2007
Embassy Review : Jorge and I had our interview on Tuesday, September 4. We arrived at the embassy around 7:30am for a 8am interview. We met Scott and Kermely while waiting in line (who were also there for a K1 and I had met virtually through VisaJourney).

After we got into the embassy we were called to the window. The woman was very nice and asked Jorge for:
-DS-156
-DS-156K
-DS-157
-Banco de la nacion payment voucher
And then she told us to sit down until we were called.

We were both really nervous and didn't know what to expect next. After waiting for about 20 minutes we were called back up to the window. If was a different woman this time. She was kind of curt with us, not really mean, but not nice either. She spoke in Spanish and asked Jorge for:
-DS-156, DS-156k and DS-157 (which we explained that we had already turned in).
-I-134 (she asked for my tax returns, which I only had my W2 copies from the last three years because I didn't have to pay taxes because I didn't make enough being a Peace Corps Volunteer).
-Birth certificate
-Antecedentes judiciales
-Antecedentes penales
-Police certificate (this certificate we thought was supposed to be from every place Jorge had lived since he was 16. That is NOT correct, it is a certificate you get in Lima from the policia nacional).

We were really nervous because we didn't have the correct certificate and we thought that we wouldn't be able to get the visa. The woman explained that is was okay that we could get it after the interview and not to worry.

She then asked Jorge how we met, how long we were dating, what he did for a living. She was taking notes the whole time. After she finished writing she told us to sit down and wait to be called for the interview.

We waited for almost 2 hours!! We were both so nervous and uncomfortable. When they finally called us, we went into the room 15, the interview room. Inside it was just another window but with chairs. So we sat down and go comfortable.

The woman asked Jorge in Spanish if he has every been married before and is he has any children. Then she spoke to me in English asking about our relationship, how we met, how long we were together, what my parents thought about the relationship, where I worked, where I lived. Basically it was just a conversation. She then got Jorge's fingerprints and said okay that's it.

She gave us the yellow paper to take to the police department to get the certificado policial. She said after they have that they will send Jorge the visa!!! We went straight to the police office, paid in the banco de la nacion and were told to come back the next day to pick up the certificate.

We picked it up the next day, went to DHL and sent it to the embassy. Jorge picked up his passport with visa and the envelope with all his papers 5 days later!!!!!!!!

APPROVED AND VISA IN HAND!!!!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
