In my state they require a notarized letter stating that there is no SSN for my fiancee.

But the marriage license office is a bit far, and their telephone number is no help.

What i was wondering was do i need to go get the letter myself and notarized at my bank or do they do it there?

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

I "think" you need to bring it with you. If you don't have a copy of the letter you can print one here: http://www.buncombecounty.org/common/registerOfDeeds/AFFIDAVIT_NO_SS.pdf. I don't know if one of the other counties has a better copy online, but that should be okay. So long as her passport has her signature in it that should be all she needs to take to the notary at the bank, but always better to have too much ID than not enough!
