How to get a social security # when you have a fiancee Visa

Hi, everybody!!!I ahve a question for a good friend of mine cousin. This lady will come to the USA with a fiancee visa in order to get marry with her US citizen boyfriend, what does she have to do in order to get her social security #? Does she have to wait to get married, or she can get it as soon as she come to the USA to marry her boyfriend?

Tks so much!!!!

p.s.: I ask that because when I married 4 yrs ago my hubby, I had already my social security # as I worked long time before in USA for an American company, so for me it was fine as I had it already!!!!!

K1 VISA: 07/25/06 GOT VISA!!!!!!

30th of September 2006 WEDDING

AOS:01/29/2007 received Permanent Resident Card (GC)

ROC:04/11/2009 received Permanent Resident Card (GC) expiring in 2019!!!!

N-400:

on 05/21/2010 Sent out docs to Arizona Lockbox Facility address via USPS

on 06/30/2010 Biometrics

on 09/24/2010 Interview Day - Passed the Test

on 10/19/2010 Oath - USA CITIZEN!!!!!

on 10/20/2010 I requested the US Passport

on 11/02/2010 the US Passport was received by Priority Mail

on 11/03/2010 @ the Social Security Office I changed my status from Resident to US Citizen

ON THE 3RD OF NOV.2010 MY JOURNEY ENDS, WHICH STARTED IN DEC. 2005!!!!!!!THANKS TO VJ & VJ PPL!!!!!!!!

She just needs to go to the SS office and apply, but it will probably be 2-3 weeks after her US entry before her status is in the system so they can give it to you. My husband just got his! :)

12-04-09 mailed I-129F

12-07-09 I-129F arrived in Vermont

12-08-09 NOA1

12-10-09 check cashed

04-05-10 NOA2 (no touches until approval!)

04-19-10 received at NVC

04-21-10 NVC sent to embassy

04-24-10 arrived at embassy

05-17-10 received packet 3

05-18-10 delivered packet to embassy

embassy asks us for ridiculous things before giving interview date, such as a photocopy of the sealed envelope from the medical exam...

07-27-10 interview

08-05-10 received visa!!!!!

08-06-10 left Argentina

08-07-10 POE (Dallas)

08-12-10 civil marriage ceremony

08-23-10 mailed AOS packet with EAD and AP applications together

08-25-10 packet arrived in Chicago

09-01-10 NOAs

09-02-10 check cashed

09-21-10 received SS number :) had to go into office twice but it worked!

09-23-10 requested EAD expedite

09-24-10 received biometrics letter

09-27-10 successful walk-in biometrics taken

10-01-10 receive EAD expedite request RFE letter

10-04-10 US Representative's office forwards our EAD expedite evidence

10-06-10 expedite for EAD granted, EAD and AP both issued :D

10-09-10 wedding (party!)

01-04-11 AOS interview (rescheduled because we moved, was 12-16-10) Approved!

She needs to wait about two weeks or so after her arrival in the U.S., then go down to her local Social Security office and file for a Social Security number. Then they will send her card in a couple of weeks.

After she gets married, she can take her official marriage certificate down to her local Social Security office and file for a name change for her Social Security card. Of course, that's assuming that she changes her name when she gets married. :)

On the other end of things, she shouln't wait until her I-94 is close to expiring. At the latest, she should file for her Social Security card at least two weeks before her I-94 expires. It's safer to file at least thirty days before her I-94 expires.
