I dont even know if this is the right place in the forum to post this topic. Pardon me if I am at the wrong place. But my question is, how am I going to change the middle name in my GC? In my Social Security Card, I'm using my maiden name while in my greencard, they put my middle name when I was still single. They said I can change it by applying a change of name. What form do I need to use and how much does this cost? Thanks a bunch!!!

First, you need to find out what sort of marriage certficate you have. If your certificate gave you the chance to write name before AND after marriage and you wrote your maiden name as middle name on that, then you just need to file an I-90 to change your GC (and pay the fee which is $300+).

If your marriage certificate DOESN'T list the name you want to use on it (most don't, some states like Iowa do), then you will need to do a legal name change and pay the appropriate fee for that (varies by state). Once you receive evidence of your legal name change THEN you can change your GC by filing the I-90 and paying the fee.

If you're okay with waiting, you can wait till your file for USC (if that's your aim) as there is a way on the N-400 to have them change your name for you. Some people have tried to simply put the fake name (the one on your SSN is fake because it's not legal) on their ROC paperwork and one person posted on here the issues she faced when it got time to USC as all her documents (DL, SSN and bank accounts) were in the fake name. Her options were limited. She effectively filed documents (the ones applying for USC) using a fake name. Her options were: apply for a legal name change and re-apply for USC OR change her ID documents to her legal name and then file USC and apply for the name change that way.

Good luck.
