Using Middle Names

Dear all,

As you all know, the american styles of names is to have first name & middle name [this means that both names are for you personally]

In Egypt, we have different style, my name consists of my first name followed by my father's name followed by my grandfather's name, and so on.

my name in the passport is the same: first name + father name + grandfather name + ...

So, when applying for any visa application or forms, what should I write in the middle name?

no middle name?

or

my father's name?

or both my father & grandfather?

or first lettet my father's name.grandfather name (like m.adly)?

kindly advise me to have unique system of nomenclature to aviod any troubles later.

Thank you in Advance

I'd list it the same as it appears in the passport to prevent any confusion

Good luck

Hi, That is very confusing. Hany has 6 names, when I filed I used the first , second and last names , Then on the paper where it said to write all names used by this person I wrote all 6 and Hany wrote all his names in arabic also (I129F/Part B #16) It was hard to get all that in that little box. When Hany signed the papers that required a signature he wrote his name in english and arabic and dated them. Have A Great Day :)

In the U.S, first name and last name are mandatory. Middle name is optional.

It's true that names in Egypt can be quite long, but the best bet is to use the name that is typed on your Egyptian passport.

My husband's passport has his first name, middle name(father's name), and last name(grandfather) and last name(great grandfather). That is exactly what we put on ALL his paperwork.

When filling out paperwork online, we didn't really have any trouble fitting his names on the slots, if it was tight or couldn't get it, we would bypass that portion typed and print it out by hand.

The only trouble we had was once my husband got here, the social security office told us that they could fit his whole name on the card. So they only put his first, middle and last (end) name. Well it caused a huge problem because the Green card from homeland security had his whole name on there.

So another trip to the Social Security office to have a new card printed up, and yes they were able to fit the whole name on there.

Don't let them try to tell you that it won't fit on there because it will, even if it is 2 lines long!
