The visa will be given an issuance date. The date the visa is actually printed. It is also give an expiration date, the date when the visa expires

Now, let's say you have a visa that has an issuance date of May 1, 2010 and it expires on May 1, 2020 - good for 10 years. does that mean you can stay in the US for 10 years? No it surely does not

You can use the visa to ask for permission to enter the US, that's all. The CBP will then grant you a duration of stay, can be up to 6 months. However, you must leave. When you leave, you can attempt to re-enter, within those years that the visa is good

Does a valid tourist visa guarentee entrance into the US? Nope, doesn't do that either

Make sense?

Why do you need a visa?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
