Hey guys

so Im purchasing my ticket for Nov 1st... and well maybe this is a dumb question but I rather sounds stupid here than have problems once im at the inmigration office at the airport haha Anyway here's the thing ... my destination is Atlanta where my beautiful fiance lives.. but direct flights are pretty expensive with delta it costs $ 1130 a one way ticket, I checked American airlines and they have a flight to Atlanta with one stop in miami and it costs $900 one way.. but I found an amazing deal with LAN.. from Caracas to Miami for $450, isnt that great? and my fiance will buy with her skymiles a flight from Miami to Atlanta, but heres the thing, that flight from Ccs miami takes off late on monday Nov 1st so ill spend the night there on monday at a friends house who lives there legally, and then hang out with them on tuesday and then leave to Atlanta Wednesday...

do you think he will find this suspicius? of course ill flight to Atlanta to see my fiance and stay with her forever!!! but I dont want to have problems with the officer for staying in miami.. I dont know why but I feel he will ask me what I am doing in miami and not in atlanta and maybe questoin me why im staying one night in miami and with who? will this raise any suspicios ?? I really odnt want to have problems with them.. so I just want some thoughs on this...

You should not have any problem. If the CBP officer were to question you about staying in Miami for a couple of days, just show the officer the confirmed itinerary to Atlanta to the officer.

July 23, 2025:  Filed N-400 online

My fiance bought a one way flight to Los Angeles, California, and then bought a separate flight from Los Angeles to Medford, Oregon. We are saving hundreds of dollars that way. I don't think it will be a problem for you. I'm not worried about my fiance having two separate bought flights like that.

I don't think he'll even bother asking, most of them just try to do their job fast and have it over with, if he does wonder, tell him it's just cheaper and you wanted to save for a nice wedding, no one hates a humble person!

You should be fine!

The only thing the CBP officer cares about is that you are entering the country legally, and that your paperwork is in order, you're not carrying any contraband, etc. They don't really care which POE you use, and they don't care where you go/what you do afterward so long as you get married during your allotted time and stay in status/AOS accordingly.

Once you enter the US with your visa, you could visit all 50 states for 89 days before marrying your fiance and nobody from the USCIS or ICE will bat an eyelid so long as your wedding takes place on day 90.

One thing you might consider: Most international flights will allow you to bring 2 checked bags instead of 1. If you're bringing a lot of stuff with you, and you switch to a domestic flight that isn't part of the same itinerary (purchased together) then you will only be allowed 1 free checked bag. Many airlines charge HEFTY fees (think $90 to $200) for excess baggage.
