I've never read if they do, someone please fill me in. I sent all my translations to USCIS without making copies........

Do you have another set of translations? If not, you can make one now. This 'may' be needed in NVC or interview time, based on your case.

ya, NVC wants the translations, as it's part of the DS-230 submittal process.

Please read all 7 pages at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Civil documents, IIRC, are covered on page 4.

Here's some recent discussion about this - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/262429-possible-huge-development-in-translations-at-nvc/

Good Luck !

(ps - anything submitted with the I-130 should have been a photocopy, never original/certified copy )

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

so how do you read this statement?

"All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations"

does that mean that security certificates also must be translated. My wife is from Brazil, is that not where the application for the visa is being made? I do have translations of marriage certificate, which was needed for USCIS, and I have translations for both my wife and her son's birth certificates. Should I get translations of police certificates as well?

Kevin,

"All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations"

Based on above line, if PCC is in official language of Brazil, it should be fine. But if NVC wants to validate what it is, how will they do it? Or do they need a Brazilian person to confirm it in NVC office?

Thanks Loto,

So your advice is to send a translation as well. just to be safe? The documents come in Portuguese, which can be read by the embassy, but as far as NVC goes.....

2 months ago I was sending my husbands documents to NVC and they told me 3 times,NOT TO TRANSLATE ANYTHING as long as his interview is in his native country...even when I asked her,she said-oh good thing you asked,we recently changed this,so you don't have to do translations!! So we just sent originals(and copies)in his country languages...Now as far as sending marriage/birth cert.to start the proces, they do have to be INTERNATIONAL or translated BUT FOR NVC-NO!

yes,it still says on the websites that all documents need to be translated but they changed that.in fact,i wanted to make sure and call nvc 3 times same evening :))) and all three people told me the same.so we sent all documents(original and copies)on hubby's native language...he just finished his interview 2 days ago and got his visa ;)

they told me-this is new thing that you don't need to translate.so as i said, when i asked she was like-good thing you asked me because, new thing is you don't need to translate as long as interview is in native country (they understand language)and i beleive in nvc they have people who do too

So go ahead and send documents as they are!or call them up and ask yourself :)

That's a great news, Kevin!

According t the NVC you don't need to if:

Translation Requirements

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

so how do you read this statement?

"All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations"

If she's applying in a country where Portuguese is the native language, no translations are needed. If not, provide the certified translations.

ya, NVC wants the translations, as it's part of the DS-230 submittal process.

If the interview will be in El Salvador, documents already in Spanish will not need translations for NVC.

China, and perhaps some other countries make an exception to this rule and require even OFFICIAL certified translations but not Spanish speaking countries or any of Europe.
