Help Please! Can't Download USCIS Forms from Web

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to complete all the AOS paperwork by downloading the most recent forms from the USCIS website. However, when I try to download/open many of the PDFs I get an error message. I've tried it on three different computers and a few different times over the past two weeks but I always get the error message! Some forms download without a problem while others get the error message. Has anyone else experienced this issue as it appears to have been happening for a while now.

Is there another resource online where we can download editable versions of the most recent forms in PDF format?

It just says "File Error - Couldn't open the file" FYI - that's the message I get on a Mac. I don't recall what the exact error wording was when I tried to open it on a PC, but it definitely would not open.

Is it all the forms or specific ones? I want to go try it myself and see what happens on my computer. :) Perhaps it is the version of Adobe you have?

Right now the USCIS website is being all stupid and not loading pages. Will keep trying.

Also, my husband used his Mac to fill out all the forms, with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.

Mine is a PC, not sure which version I have but when I get the USCIS page to work I will let you know what happens. :)

Thank you! FYI - I just tried downloading I-485 and got the same error :(

Are there any other sources online to get the most recent, fillable, forms?

I'm not trying to turn this into a Tech Support forum :)

It's ok, it's an "anything related to immigration" forum. ;)

I was able to open the G-1145 (the USCIS page is still being stupid and slow) with no problems. I'm using Firefox as the browser (V 3.6.8), and I could save it to my computer, and open it with Adobe. It's Acrobat 9.3.3. All fillable.

I don't know how else to help, you're just clicking the download link, right?

I'd say make sure you're using Internet Explorer. I've found the USCIS site REALLY slow when I tried to access the forms or open PDFs. if that doesn't work, you can call USCIS at 1-800-375-5283 to order them.

It's an error on your computer, check the size of the files. I have it happen all the time on my computer where it just downloads weird. Try right mouse clicking (or whatever the mac equivalent) and then "save file to". If you PM me with your email address and the forms you need I can send them to you in an attachment.

if you are using Safari on a MAC, then strongly suggest you switch to OPERA web browser.

You'll have a better 'life' with USCIS - Safari browser, unfortunately, 'blows' when trying to 'do anything' with the myriad of fed's web sites.

FWIW, an 'open file error' is just that - cannot open the file.

USUALLY this occurs because of acrobat / pdf viewer linkage issues with yer browser -

but

if you have option (when hovering on the link) to 'save the file' as opposed to 'opening the file'

then save the file, instead. The file will be saved, regardless of 'associated file type for program launching'

Opera Rocks on a Mac - get it today?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the helpful advice. For most of the forms I just used Preview on my Mac and could edit everything no problem. But for the ones I was having problems with, I ended up downloading Adobe Reader for Mac and it all worked out just fine.

Thanks again for all the advice & suggestions. You guys are awesome and I really appreciate it!

- Zach

I have had the same problem. Some forms open and some don't. I have tried opening the I-130 form and it says 404- Page requested not found on site. My other half just tried to open the same form up on his computer and he got the same message.
