After my first marriage, I kinda made a list in my head of wanting someone totally opposite to the idiot.

Number 1 on the list was someone my family loved and knew I was happy with, which Dave fills perfectly.

Loyal, caring, trustworthy and bullsh!t free were musts too!

I've always dated guys over 6ft - Dave's 5'9, always loved blue eyes - Dave's are brown!

The thing that attracted me most to Dave was he was always happy, smiley and cracking jokes. He used to brighten up my day and still does :)

My girlfriends and I would sit around & make lists about our "perfect guy".

I found my man when I wasn't looking & if anyone would have told me that I woud be marrying an actor(from Ireland) I would have NEVER believed them. I do have to admit that I have always been attracted to the "artsy" types!

Don't know if there is such a thing as the "ideal mate" but I do know that Gavin & I deserve eachother :P

I never had a real list, probably a big part because I'm still young and my tastes and wants had been changing for quite some time. I had some 'ideals' but they change so often. People I think are attractive look completely different, still, so I don't think there was truely an ideal.

When I first met my now fiance, I honestly didn't think he was like... 'my type', though. He was younger than me, he wasn't into the genres of music I was at the time (I was more into metal while he was more into indie and alternative-- now we both listen to a healthy mix of both, more of the alternative both, basically back to my roots) nor the subculture that goes with them. He had never dyed his hair (Previous boyfriends had blue hair, black hair, bleached hair, long hair), no piercings, no tattoos.

I was also weary of long distance relationships as I had had a *really* damaging one with a older guy when I was in my teens.

Somehow, though, he's become one of the sexiest men I know despite being 'plain', his mind turns me on like crazy, he balances me out where I'm too unrealistic, I balance him out where he's too serious. Things just... worked, and fit, and seem like the right thing. In all my previous relationships there's been some kind of doubt, and somehow, if we can be confident in this, despite being an ocean apart and seeing each other only 2-3 times a year, I don't think it can be wrong.

I was looking for someone who: made me laugh and laughed at my jokes, was intelligent in a quirky way, sensitive, kind, loyal, loved reading and the movies, loved animals... someone I would love to spend time with, who would fill my life with a sense of peace.

No interest in ideal man's profession or any particular kind of looks. No height restrictions.

AH HA!

rebeccajo is Ric Flair!!!!!

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Well lemme see......

No, I didn't really have a list per se, although I knew what I didn't want.

Joel is more than I ever expected to find, let alone marry, because at the time I met him I never expect that any man would want me (my ex told me I'd never find anyone - heh). When I met him I had very little self esteem. He became my best friend at first...helping me believe in myself again after being told so many times how stupid I was. He helped me want to explore those areas that had been denied me for years (music, reading, art, etc.)

My ex is very tall...Joel is my height (I love it...I can look directly into his eyes :) ). Joel's eyes hold a warmth and honesty that astounded me from the first time I met him. He loves me in a way that I've NEVER EVER been loved before. I've always wanted a love like that. In Joel I have that and more.

I knew I wanted someone that sees me as a person, someone that matters. To Joel, I am everything in his life, and he is the same to me.

If I had a list, it would be in the garbage....I have everything I would want, and nothing that I didn't want. :luv:
