Guys,

I’m ready to send in the DS 230 along with all the required Paper work but I have a quick question.

Do I need to translate the Original Documents (B CERTIFICATE, Criminal records, Marriage certificate, ….) before sending it to the NVC?

I just got of the phone with NVC operator and she said “ I don’t need to translate it as long as its on the native language” ( all the documents in Arabic(Egypt), and the interview will be in Egypt which is our native country)

At the same time I read here on VJ that we need to send a translation along with every original document.

Your help is really appreciate it.

Thanks

Ossama

As per NVC, all originals NOT in English have to be translated to English.

thanks guys..BUT,

The following is directly from the US Department of State - Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants.

Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

* Translation is accurate, and

* Translator is competent to translate.

so that mean mean you need the translation if the document is NOT in English or the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

You need the translation into English. Do you prefer to get RFE or AP or spend some time and money to get them translated?

Hi Ossama and welcome to VJ.

I think you should definitely get the translations for all of the paperwork and send it in with the original documents. Even if it seems that they don't want the translations, the possibility of giving you a RFE just to delay your packet being sent to the Embassy is way more time consuming. Trust me on that one.

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks to you all,

I do have the translation for all my documents; I was kinda shocked when the operator told me that I don’t need the translation. At the same time VJ members mention that the translation is A MUST.

I just wanted to know if the operator gave me a misleading info..
