I apologize if there is a thread on this already but I cannot find any search box. My question is this: I want to fly to the Philippines for my fiancee's interview when it is scheduled. I was wondering if anyone has any input on if that helped you or not or maybe it didn't make a difference. For your reading pleasure I have included a poll although I think they are silly! Thanks for any answers in advance folks! :star:

It all depends. For moral support, it would be great to be there. At some embassies, they may interview the both of you together. Others may interview the both of you one at a time. And from what I have been seeing here on VJ, most embassies don't even care whether you are there or not.

Being there on the other hand could further prove your relationship!!!

If you have the money, go ahead and be with her at the interview. If your budget is kinda tight, you can stay and use that money for the AOS.

As of my case, once we get approved, am gonna fly to Uganda and be with my fiancee at her interview in Nairobi, Kenya.

Good Luck!!

There is NO downside when a petitioner is there during interview time. Even if the petitioner is not allowed into the interview and instead has to remain on the consular grounds, the petitioner can give his/her U.S. passport to the beneficiary, who can show it to the CO. This cannot help but score big points.

Also, at some consulates (Ecuador, certainly), it is expected that the petitioner be there for the first interview, or the visa runs an overwhelming chance of being refused. Search "Guayaquil" to read some of the horror stories, which are NOT the worst that have happened!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for all the great answers! Does anyone know if they allow the petitioner at the interview in Manila? My plan is to definitely be there and get that visa then take my fiancee back home with me!

Yes they do allow petitioners to be present during the interview. Both of you will be interviewed by the CO. In a lot of cases in Manila, it's a lot better when the petitioner is present.

OK Folks I want to revive this one more time. I read in some paperwork from this site which was very well put together, that having the petitioner at the interview doesn't actually assist the interview. This pertains to the USEM in Manila. My fiancee wants me there so I will go but if I wont be allowed in the interview how effective can I be? I don't have a problem making my point when I am in front of people so I am confident I will help her fly through the interview so my question is if everyone who has been through Manila thinks I will be allowed in the interview. Thanks again everyone and please let me know what you think!

As another poster said earlier, even if you're not allowed in (which most in Manila that I've read have been) she could show your passport to the CO and inform them that you are there, supporting her through the interview process, and THAT could score some points to prove you love her enough to go there.

You might consider calling the consulate/embassy the day before to make sure they're aware you'll be attending with her and will be allowed in.

On the site for the embassy in Cyprus it says I can't be in there with him, but I intend on going with him for support. I would think it can't hurt, and agree it shows how much you love that person to fly wherever he/she is to support them.

I attended the meeting and it helped a great deal.. Im sure she would have been denied if I wasnt there.. In fact, the officer asked me about 70% of the questions and told me "Im going to approve her visa.." when he was finished with the interview. He gave me all of the instructions on where to go to pay the courier, how to use the visa, etc...

It practically was my interview and not hers...
