My fiancee had the K-1 visa interview today at the Chennai (India) US consulate

and they approved her visa. This was awesome news to hear after a 7 month wait.

The interview was straightforward. For evidence of relationship, they only asked to look

at engagement photos. They didn't ask about emails, phone records etc.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Do K-1 visa applicants receive a sealed envelope which they have to present to the

immigration officer at the port of entry ? Any experiences at SFO airport ?

2) After we get married in the US, how do we notify USCIS that we are married

and do we have to send them a copy of the marriage certificate ?

My timeline

-------------

Jan 23 2006 NOA1

June 3 2006 Touch

June 20 2006 RFE because I didn't fill out the G325 forms

June 29 2006 CSC received complete G325 forms

June 30 2006 Petition is approved

July 5 2006 Received approval letter in the mail

July 10 2006 Called NVC and found they had entered the case in their system

July 11 2006 Petition forwarded to consulate by DHL

July 14 2006 Chennai US consulate received the petition

July 18 2006 Fiance received interview appointment letter

Aug 10 2006 Interview appointment. Visa approved

Congrats on your approval.

1. Yes -- the officer at customs will keep that envelope. Dont open it.

2. You would notify USCIS that you are married by filing for Adjustment of status.

Congratulations on the interview!

1. She will receive a package, or she may have to go pick it up, they should've given her instructions on how this will happen. She will turn in the package when she enters the USA.

2. The paperwork starts all over again, with AOS (adjustment of status). There are guides and faqs for this, found up top in the blue tabs. There is also an AOS section of Visa Journey further down the main screen.
