Congratulations boilermaker. This gives hope to July applicants ( especially CSC ) that we will hear a similar news soon.

Just out of curiosity, what is your profile ? What kind of documentation did you submit. I am trying to understands variables that make some apps approved faster than the others. The variables I have come up ( and I could be well off ) with so far are

1. Country of origin

2. Joint property ownership

3. Kid/s

4. Status / Visa of applicant before Conditional GC

5. Age difference between couple

6. Duration of marriage

7. Financial mingling ( especially Tax info )

Sometimes I really don't believe there's anything special that makes some people get approved much faster than others other than pure luck, especially when you consider there are people from months ago still waiting who fit that criteria perfectly.

My theory is that some officers can't bother to dig to the back of the pile so when they're ready for a new set they take a bunch of applications near the front (aka the ones that just arrived) making it seem like a last in first out (LIFO) set up rather than the first in first out (FIFO) situation they present on their website.

Regardless, I'm elated to see progress no matter how it comes!

Many (many, many) years ago, in the age before widespread computers, I worked in an office filing paperwork. There were stacks and stacks of boxes and files, and the order of working through them was thoroughly random. Some, deep at the back, never got touched, yet still held entirely valid invoices to be paid. That was a government agency in the UK, not some pikey contractor.

I imagine USCIS is more buttoned-down than that, and the age of computerization would have made the whole process way more automatic, but you still have a huge element of coincidence.

Thinking further through this...

The only way there could be a common set of variables affecting the speed of approval is if:

One IO reviews all files every morning as they come in, and decides amongst them a priority based on the variables. This would have to be a documented process (since government people have to have a process to follow), and I very strongly doubt that "country of origin" or "race" would be a factor that anyone would dare write down in a process. (except, maybe, for the "rogue" states, like Scotland for instance (joke!)), same goes for gender, income etc.

The only variables that would be constant in any discussion of possible variables, in my mind, would be "Time Remaining Until Out Of Status" (which would include the 1 year extension), Time Of Arrival (to give some kind of FIFO workflow) and most probably "Likelihood of this file helping this processing center to hit its targets and therefore get the extra federal funding for a commemorative George W Bush water fountain in the lobby"

But unless History Channel runs its next realo-docu-drama about the inner workings of a USCIS processing center, we're very unlikely to ever know.

Just my opinion, no matter how advance the technology is, there is still a possibility of disorganized dealing with processing. They don't have any idea of what the applicants will feel, all they care MAYBE is to do their job regardless if it's done efficiently or not. Just venting...

Interesting feedback tom_g. I think that's exactly what happens at USCIS. If everything were electronic, including the files themselves this would be less of an issue because they'd be able to process applications in the order they were received but since there's a lot of paper pushing that goes on at USCIS and each application is kept in a physical file the possibility of a scenario just like the one described above is bound to happen at some point.

Just my opinion, no matter how advance the technology is, there is still a possibility of disorganized dealing with processing. They don't have any idea of what the applicants will feel, all they care MAYBE is to do their job regardless if it's done efficiently or not. Just venting...

I agree totally with your thoughts. I take my hats off to the people behind the scenes because it must be a very dull job at times.

Hey guys, you might find this reading somewhat interesting.
