I-864A vs. Joint Sponsor

Hi, I am writing on my wife's account here since she is signed-in.

We are filing for AOS and need to fill-out the I-864 now. I am below the 125% mark needed on my income at the moment, so I am debating whether to include my father (who lives with us) in the household and use his income and a I-864A or to use him as a joint-sponsor and do an I-864 for him instead without including him in the household income.

I am leaning towards the I-864A option.. any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, we have supporting documents from last November when we did this for the K-1 interview. Can we just use those again or do you think that they are too old now? (Letter from employer, Letter from bank officer with balance etc., Notarized letter of support..)

I feel like those are too old to re-use. My letter from employer is from Jan. 2010, but my dad's is from last November (and his letter from the bank officer is from last September). I am getting new ones for myself and will try to get him to do the same, but I was considering just sending his old ones in with the affidavit.

I don't beleive there is an option. As you live with your father he completes the I-864A so that's an easy answer.

All the "stuff" from last year (letter from bank, employer etc) doesn't apply with the I-864. you only submit tax returns or tax transcripts. you can include that stuff if you want (not needed though) but yes, you will be required to obtain new documentation dated closer to your date of filing if you choose to file it.

We used my husband's mom, who lives with us too. And we had her complete 864A.

BTW (off topic, but kinda funny) - I noticed ur date of wedding and location, and ours was April 16, 2009 on the beach in Laguna Beach, CA

OK cool.. looks like we are a couple months behind you now. That is funny about the date and location so close to ours, and on the beach too!

...another coincidence I noticed is that my stepdad and his family are from the Ukraine did you guys make any pysanky eggs for easter?

Ok, that's spooky ))

We didn't make pysankies, because I am THE worst with arts and crafts )) We did use a traditional Ukrainian embroidered ... cloth or towel, or i don't know what to call it in our wedding ceremony. That made my grandma back home very happy. Awww... ))
