Its greed and not compassion that gets things done.

YOU CAN CALL IT GREED, selfishness or enlightened self-interest, but the bottom line is that it's these human motivations that get wonderful things done. Unfortunately, many people are naive enough to believe that it's compassion, concern and "feeling another's pain" that's the superior human motivation. As such, we fall easy prey to charlatans, quacks and hustlers.

Since it's not considered polite to come out and actually say that greed gets wonderful things done, let me go through a few of the millions of examples.

There's probably widespread agreement that it's a wonderful thing that most of us own cars. Is there anyone who believes that the reason we have cars is because Detroit assembly-line workers care about us? It's also wonderful that Texas cattle ranchers make the sacrifices of time and effort caring for steer so that New Yorkers can enjoy a steak now and then. Again, is there anyone who believes that ranchers who make these sacrifices do so out of a concern for and feeling the pain of New Yorkers?

The true reason why we enjoy cars, steaks, and millions of other goods and services is because people care mostly about themselves. Now ask yourself: How much steak would New Yorkers have if it all depended on human love, kindness and feeling the pain of others? I'd feel sorry for New Yorkers.

There's a difference in making a live for oneself by selling products/services to others and actual "Greed."

I get what the author is saying, but they're a bit misguided.

Whos in charge of determining how much of a living, I or anyone else is "allowed" to make?

No one. Greed still exists though either way pretty easily.

Greed by definition is taking more than you actually need.....

I would say a paycheck more than say 20 million equals greed if, said company is not meeting the needs of its lower employees. IE. Any CEO who makes more than 20 million while not extending vacation/health care benefits to full time employees might be seen as greedy.

See also hoarding.

Dont you mean earning? I think youve fallin for the way words have been raped and redefined for alternative purposes. Look whats happened to the word racist.

The KKK is the epitome of racist. Now if you say something negative about a colorful person your a racist.

The definition of greed to me is a person who cheats you out of money through dishonesty or false claims.

The reality is that greed is not delivering the goods. The trademark of most third world countries is personal greed and to-each-his-own - aka libertarianism.

Research the collapse of superpowers throughout history and you will find greed firmly in there.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

let me reprhase.

Greed is a desire for more than what is actually needed.

Therefore just because you 'earned' it, doesn't mean you need it. In a technical sense if you are 'earning' more than you actually need to survive than it's greed by default. Your services should theorhetically be sold for less to meet your needs to keep it from falling into the greed catagory.

I guess all we need to "survive" is a tent a gun and a coleman stove? Can I be in charge of what it takes for your survival? Im having a tough time believing your seriousness on this one.
