Passport Drop Off = Visa???

Hi All,

This topic came up in another thread just today, and I wanted to start a thread of its own.

Does dropping one's passport off at the consulate always/definitely/probably mean they are in the process of issuing you a visa?

It means probably, but it is definitely not definitely or always. But, If they call for the passport...think positive.

I would say it's probably.

Although it is a good sign, it doesn't necessarily guarantee issuance.

It is difficult to say, we are talking about the embassies.

I can tell you that this happened to us back in Jan 2008. They actually sent an email telling us that they were processing my husband's visa and to send the passport and then they returned his passport to him and the case to USCIS.

I would hope this doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. There is nothing like getting your hopes and getting all excited and then have them squashed to pieces.

I think that it is just important not to give up and to think positive.

Hmmm I would definitely think it is a good sign, but again, it probably depends on the embassy.
