Congratulations to the both of you, and Wilma -- welcome to the United States! :)

If you think you cleaned your house and think you've got it "filipina ready".....think again! Wilma has been non-stop cleaning! And wondering how I could live so messy....I said you should have seen before I cleaned it. The main thing I hear is "omg it's so dusty....you never dust?"

I bet I'll hear the same! Karen always tells me I'm a "good boy" when she hears I'm cleaning!

Make sure you show your new bride how to use the exhaust fan over the stove and tell her about this little device called a "smoke alarm." Yesterday I finally went to work and left Wilma alone for the 1st time and she started cooking her some breakfast, and ummm well she set off the smoke alarm and she said she freaked out and began running around screaming......

I've thought about this too, since my smoke alarm is overly sensitive and ALWAYS going off! This alarm has gone off as soon as I've added oil to the frying pan! :o For the time being, I've pulled out the battery, since there's another smoke alarm nearby but out of the reach of the stove. Apparently the alarm is either too sensitive to be in a kitchen or the fan above my stove is not strong enough. It's annoying to me, but I bet it's scary to someone who doesn't know what it is!

Not sure if it's just my Wilma, but she is always worried about ghosts and sleeping in the dark. We have to leave a light on..... and she's scared to go in some rooms alone....and always wants closet doors closed.

I thought about getting a night light, but haven't done it yet. I think that's a good idea, for the late-night trips to the cr!

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions! Many are things I'd thought about too, but it's nice to know what to expect and what other people are thinking! Do you have a good suggestion for a relatively cheap way to call the Philippines?

Thanks for the wedding photos. Johnny, you look dapper in your suit. Who knew that you would clean up so well?!? :P

By the way, has Wilma put three more blankets on the bed even though it's already warm in San Diego?

We got married on May 6th ourselves.. :)

lol  I heard the same when my wife first came to our house about how messy. Even though I had cleaned. We got busy organizing things and also bought a nice sofa set for the living room and fixed that up. I was waiting for her to arrive to help pick things out for it.

For the cooking thing, I cooked with her for a while until she was comfortable with everything. I forgot about the smoke alarm that's a good thing to reminder her about.

I don't live too far from SD. I got COX cable and we ordered "Filipino Channel" and "GMA" both are addons that cost $12 each a month at COX.

For phone right now we are using Startec which you dial a 10-10 number and after a 50cent connect charge it's 9 cents a minute. That's temporary until we get http://www.pinoytawagunlimited.com/ which is $40 a month for unlimited calling to Phil.

My AT&T cell bills were a joke even with the world calling plan at 25 cents a min. My last bill was $500. Never again.. I did use them before K1 because it was handy and the call logging records were great to submit for our interview time. I had months of call records, two calls per day it was great to add that to our evidence folder but now all that is done with.

We are very happy and adjusting well ourselves. Congrats on your wedding and everything :)

You tried rebtel.com? It is like 12.9 cents a min to a cell phone and no connect fees. It is a prepay service that reloads automatically if you want. ***I have no affiliation with rebtel***

Oh yeah, congrats on your marriage too!!

Congratulations!! Nice wedding photos. My advice to all you guys is not to buy an expensive cookware set. I bought Ruchie a nice Chef set and it wasn't long before she had ruined and burnt the pans. They are use to cooking on high heat and are not use to cooking on low to medium heat....:bonk: I could go on and on, but I think you guys know what I mean.....

For some extra pointers: tell your asawa that aluminum foil is a metal after you explained not to put metal in the microwave.

Don't forget to explain why dishwashing liquid is not a good substitute when you run out of Cascade.

Congrats on the marriage Johnny and Wilma.

Hi VJ friends,

Wilma arrived last Friday, May 14, and we were married here in San Diego on Sat May 15. So far things have been wonderful. She is such a beautiful person and I am very thankful to God that I've found her. We seem to be a prefect match and are both happy with our decision. I haven't been posting much lately because we are just coming down from our honeymoon time and I finally had to start going back to work....that's hard to do but a necessity.

We have a few photos from our wedding posted here:

http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-24060

http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-24061

Here's some tips guys:

If you think you cleaned your house and think you've got it "filipina ready".....think again! Wilma has been non-stop cleaning! And wondering how I could live so messy....I said you should have seen before I cleaned it. The main thing I hear is "omg it's so dusty....you never dust?"

Not sure if it's just my Wilma, but she is always worried about ghosts and sleeping in the dark. We have to leave a light on..... and she's scared to go in some rooms alone....and always wants closet doors closed.

Better get ready for tons of calls back home to PI and a bit of homesickness. Wilma hasn't had a serious homesickness problem yet, but we do live in San Diego and we have lots of fun activities.

Be prepared to explain how home appliances work....like washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven. These things are not as common in the typical Filipino home. Wilma kept calling our toaster oven a microwave for a few days. :D

Grocery shopping is much different here as we tend to shop for the whole week on the weekend, they tend to shop for the next 1-2 days because they don't have big freezers/refrigerators or kitchen storage space. So they go to the market every few days.

Always give her lots of love n affection...she'll need it. She sacrificed a lot to be here and left family/friends behind.

Take Care everyone, good luck on all the journey's ahead.

hey there you are friend...CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES plus big hugs to both of you!!!May Your life together as married couple be as blessed and fulfilling!!!GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!!!

All the things that you write here make me laugh.. But this is definitely what my Love will tell me once i arrived in our house..I'm always afraid to break or ruined any appliances...:bonk:
