Vaccination Help

When Yi was in Guangzhou she was told that she did not need vaccinations for her K1. Which I know is technically true, you don't need them for the visa, but you do need them for AOS. So, she did not get her vaccination card taken care of. I am trying to get her to go to the clinic in Shanghai and get what she needs. She has read too many stories online about girl who were told their vaccine card is worthless and then told they needed many vaccinations that they really didn't need. So my question is: should she even bother (yes, I know they are cheaper in China) to go to the clinic? I am having her call the clinic and ask some questions, but today they are not answering the phone, so I am throwing this out there for any help you can offer. Thanks!

the mechanics of getting it done in China is/are pretty straightforward -

just have all recorded on the 'international vaccine record', is a 'yellow book'.

I think what you need to dig through, though, is some AOS folks' reviews who did the other shots in the USA...

There's 'been some of that' in the AOS forums these last 5 months - mostly I ignore them, just skim through.

Some links to review, though -

http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1331.html (ya, it's IV, but is subset of that AOS list)

http://guangzhou-ch.usembassy-china.org.cn/uploads/images/METxUd0N5p-y4j8FPo7XSg/Vacinnation_instruction.pdf GUZ IV info

I-693 form, used when filing AOS - http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=eb1f3591ec04d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

So, use those links as a starting point, do remember some of these are 'age specific', as well.

Good Luck !! (and please remember - for this subject, I AM NOT THE SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT - keep digging ! )

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It's too late now in your case but because of all the Civil Surgeon issues at AOS time, I've started advising that the vaccinations be taken care of before or during the medical exam even for K visa applicants. This avoids even needing to see a Civil Surgeon in the USA. Often they end up wanting to do and charge for a new medical.

That's a reply to me? no no no. pull the other one. I do hope you realize that vaccinations can be handled , to match up the AOS 'difference' , even AFTER the interview? It won't matter much, for 'when', exactly, as long as is done before the jump to USA.

----

what do you mean? too late for my case? hmmmmm We've been really good, you and I, at keeping this impersonal - please don't shift to 'personal mode' on this, with me, today .

Thanks ?

I was referring to the OP's case. Yes, it can all be handled. I'm advising people to get the vaccinations before the visa interview to AVOID complications, not because the complications can't be dealt with. Nothing personal at all. Just commentary on vaccinations.

My recommendation was to get the vaccinations as part of the medical so the record is in the sealed envelope. It's too late for that in the OP's case. The advice only works when taken before the medical is complete.

It's not too late to get the shots, though, and have them put in an International Vaccination Record, aka Yellow Book.

Not at all. MANY get that, use it to show at Civil Surgeon Review in USA.

Alright, so I called a few clinics here in St. Louis that are on the USCIS Civil Surgeon list and here is what I found out. For Yi, the only vaccines that she is required to have are MMR and Td(tetanus / diphtheria) for AOS. She would also need Varicella if she has not had chicken pox as a child or not been immunized in the past. Here are their fees:

$125 for medical exam (ONLY need this if she didn't already have. We have done this.)

In lieu of this, they charge $50 for transcription onto the immunization supplement, $30 for Td, $55 for MMR for a total of $135.

I can live with spending $135 to not have Yi stress over the folks in Shanghai.

Looks like you were lucky enough to find a cooperative Civil Surgeon. Terrific.

Hi all,

What is the difference of this Vaccination Requirements instruction http://photos.state.gov/libraries/guangzhou/47024/IV/Important%20Notice%20to%20Immigrant%20Visa%20Applicants%20Concerning%20Vaccination%20Requirements%20Apr%2010.pdf and the one posted earlier? This one is taken from http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

It seems added more vaccines.

if I have my fiancee take them all, does she still need more vaccine when applying AOS?

Jack - the vaccines are age specific - but - check the 'as of' date of each document, use the one that is more current.

We went to the Civil Surgeon, no record of vaccinations from my fiancee, so blood test were given plus one Tetanus vaccination, all others came back negative, no further vaccinations needed, total cost $325.00

Time goes by..

I've read here on VJ where some K-1erz AOSed without sending in their I-693 vaccination form. They risked an RFE, yet they never received an RFE, and they AOSed successfully.

My wife was a K-1er who had her medical exam, including immunizations, in Manila at St. Lukes Medical Extension Clinic. At AOS time, she found a Civil Surgeon here in Seattle who who knew the drill and who charged her about $40 for the transcription. There was no medical exam required nor were there any more vaccinations required.
