Processing Times Unmarried Son Over 21

Hi all,

I've only recently come across this forum after deciding that I wanted to know more about processing times for the I-130. So much information which is awesome, but so confusing!

Long story short I've been "processing" for 60mths so far, and it just seems ridiculous that it would take so long to be "reunited" with my family (in Colorado).

My mother lodged the I-130 as a permanent resident in March 2005, and it has been so long that in the mean time she has now become a Citizen...

The case status online @ USCIS shows that its still in "Initial Review" stating:

On March 23, 2005, we received this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case.

My mother contacted me two days ago saying that she had to pay the AOS of $70 and that the paperwork stated a Visa would be available soon...

Does the payment of the AOS mean that I am anywhere near getting my green card to enter the states? or am I destined to be waiting for another couple of years for something to actually happen?

Perhaps someone else is in the same boat?

Thanks in advance!

yes,

once the case is completed it will be sent to the US Consulate/Embassy of your country and you will have your interview. Months not years.

Hang in there, you are close.

Thanks for the heads up aleful, I was getting a bit worried when I couldn't see any similar cases on here and everyone elses case times were a lot quicker. Figured I might've missed some paperwork or something.

I imagine your mom is a USC? Lately, the NVC has started to send the paperwork early even before the priority date is current. The wait of an unmarried child of a USC, that is not Mexican or Philppean is more than 6 years. If you check the visa bulletin, they are in 2004.

It was lodged when she was a US Permanent Resident, and since she has become a Citizen.

That's also a negative on the mexican/philo, I'm a New Zealander with Permanent Residency in Australia :)

I really hope that its not that far away...

What sucks is that last year in April she remarried my Dad, and they lodged his App in late last year, and its already in the Post Decision processing... so disheartening to see someone else do it in a couple of mths when you've been waiting for years :(

Also on the Permanent vs. USC... If it was lodged with the sponsor as a PR and they become a USC whilst processing, will the processing dates then also adjust to the USC times?

did your mom already advise the NVC that she is a USC? you will change category from 2B, child over 21 of a LPR, which takes over 8 years to process to a single child over 21 of a USC, it's about 2 years less of waiting. You would be in category 1.

I'll have to ask her when I speak to her next, but being that they've advised a visa will be available within 9mths, (whilst I don't want to) I could almost "assume" that she has advised them, and that is why it has come up...

Will keep you posted.

It was definitely upgraded and the case on the NOA2 is marked petition of son of a USC...

After looking around on the forums, I'm guessing now that the AOS is paid, the DS-3032 is on its way to me in Australia...

Is there a reason that I would request for the paperwork to be sent (to an "agent" - who I assume can actually be my mother) somewhere other than my own address?

anyone? Just trying to expedite the remaining paperwork process... I see from people signatures that they complete a ds3032, but as per my previous request, why make it someone other than you (ie. Husband, wife, fiancé/e etc)?
