Wow, I spend about $400+ per month on calling cards - 13cents per minute to a cellular.

I wish internet chatting were an option, but no...it isn't.

You are definitely spending alot.

Yup, I'm ready...and I can feel it comin'...I'm banking on tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. As far as phone bills, they are only slightly unreasonable now. Anyone out there bust a $1,300 phone bill in one month or am I the champ?

It may be cheaper for you to talk to her through the computer, have you checked it out?

Here are the rates through Yahoo Phone Out

Indonesia $0.079

Indonesia, Jakarta $0.029

Indonesia, Mobile $0.120

Indonesia, Surabaya $0.079

I use an internet phone service like Vonage called Packet8. There is a package for $50 / month that includes unlimited international calling at no additional charge. It has saved me a pile of money!!

Thanks for the info, unfortunetly for me it only applies to Sao Paulo, Brasil, not the other areas (well without having to pay a per minute fee). :(

Just offering one more suggestion...

SKYPE!

We've used it daily for months... internet based, and all you need is a microphone...

It's proven invaluable to our communication while in the UK... and he uses it to talk to his buddy in OZ... so I am pretty sure it doesn't have different rates depending on the country...

Go for it!

4/03/05..... Met on Clearwater Beach at the Hostel, Love at First Sight! :)

5/23/05..... Sean leaves me to continue his trip around the world :(

7/06/05..... Sean comes back bcoz we miss each other tooo much :)))

8/23/05..... Sean goes home for good this time :(

9/23/05..... Talking every day, deciding that we can't live apart

6/23/06...... Sean arrives in Tampa! Staying till September! :) :) :)

7/03/06.......RFE arrives at my house :(

7/06/06...... RFE sent back to California. Now, NOA2 PLEASE! :)

7/13/06..... Touched :)

7/17/06..... Received email stating 'RFE' info rec'd. Should have answer soon. Yeah, right. :(

Unlimited international for $50? Can I call a cellular (Indonesia) from my computer here?

If so, Where do I sign up?

You beat me to it!

Skype is the ONLY way to go . . . add a webcam and it's ALMOST like you're together. I've probably saved thousands of dollars at this point. . .

I love Vonage, it is what I use. Good value for money, but this Packet8 deal sounds even better.

A small tip. Depends where she lives and if she had broadband access. I have send a vonage adapter to my parents in South Africa and it has saved us a ton of money. Vonage-to-Vonage is free and I even let it forward to my cell when it is not answered. Normal phone, no online funnyness of talking. But the drawback is they need DSL. My fiance is in the Ukriane, so with her this is not even an option. I call her with Vonage at a low rate per minute.

just checked, Packet8 doesn't include Indonesia (for unlimited). You'd have to pay 0.17 a minute :(

Have you checked Yahoo Phone Out? I found it to be cheaper than Skype so I switch.

I had to add in here:

You people spend so much $$!

I know we are not typical in that we talk once a week & send emails during the week (not EVEN EVERY DAY!). Shocking, I know. :P

Not sure if it's cuz I'm comfortable with him or what but hey, to each his own. It works for us. We're not big phone people or net addicts (except for me on VJ).

I probably spend $10 a month on a phone card.

I am in the same boat as you, no DSL or high speed in my Fiances area either.

I have yet to find a better solution for calling a cell in Indonesia, for less than 13cents/m.

Well, at least cards that are worth a darn anyway, unlike the 3 minute rounding, ####### connections and so forth, junk that I have tried..

Even though I got my NOA 1 by some stroke of luck earlier this week, I'm keeping on this particular branch of the forum for awhile because I want to see all of you get your approvals.

Especially to those March and recall petitions (sorry April folks, gotta route for them first), I am hoping for you for what its worth. Its interesting because even though things have changed for my fiance and I a bit in the process, I feel something of a collective anger with you guys for this absolute garbage of watching June and July petitions get approved before you (and us previous to monday). I dont even know what to suggest anymore. Its a tight community we are running here, and its sometimes jarring to think how far apart we are geographically, but I can imagine a collective 'late NOA2' VJ gathering to the shooting range would have been a welcomed outing several times over now!

At any rate, for what its worth, I'm routing for you guys, and hoping to see your vindicated posts very very soon!

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

joseph22,

Your thoughts and supportive comments are very much appreciated. This whole situation is extremely frustrating, simply because right now, I have no idea when I or anyone else here may get approved. I am generally a patient individual, and can line up in a queue and wait my turn, just like everyone else.

Trouble here is that there is seemingly no end to this sh!t. They approve in some order that is beyond my comprehension.

Right now we have no processing dates, no advice from USCIS, no indication, nothing.

All I want to know is when My Fiance and I can continue with our lives together. A simple, question really. Should have happened already.
