Or if we could get Americans to stop using drugs, the problem would solve itself.

Just say no. Nancy told us what to do 30 years ago.

Do you think that if drugs are legalized the problem will be solved? Junkies will stop committing crimes for their next fix? Who is going to produce the legal drugs? Is the gov. going to make a cocaine agreement with Columbia?

Methadone clinics, rehabs, job training centers, etc. Treat the problem with social workers and healthcare professionals. Not with cops, judges, and prison wardens.

Addicts don't want to be treated. They greatly enjoy getting high. In fact, they wake up in the morning and "look forward" to getting high as a kite. They love it!

But I agree a much better punishment for being "busted" is X-days of "outpatient treatment" at a rehab center. If caught too many times then inpatient treatment (where you cannot leave)!

My wife is from Acapulco, Guerrero. The capital of Guerrero state is Chilpancingo. Here was the front page news this week Wednesday:

No matter how many times I see these gruesome pictures I still cannot believe that it is a reality over there. They take killing to a whole new level. See far left:

This was in Juarez, Mexico last year. This is what the cartels do to local police. About 5 minutes from the Texas border btw:

Doesn't each state have it's own Marijuana laws? I understand the Fed can regulate it, but if CA decriminalizes personal possession of up to one ounce, that would be within the state's jurisdiction.

The Federal government doesn't have to repect a state's jurisdiction, it has proven that many times. Individuals who are currently in full compliance with state medical MJ laws are not protected from federal prosecution.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out if CA approves the measure.
