California voters get to vote on legalizing it this coming November.

That won't really matter unless something similar happens on the federal level. I agree that drugs should be legalized, regulated and taxed. You would eliminate a lot of the violence and crime while doing this.

plus is gives the illegal trade a chance to undercut the legal trade ....

If the law passes, a person can grow their own. The local stuff will be a lot cheaper because it wasn't smuggled, thereby undercutting the Mexican drug cartels ...at least for Marijuana.

Doesn't each state have it's own Marijuana laws? I understand the Fed can regulate it, but if CA decriminalizes personal possession of up to one ounce, that would be within the state's jurisdiction.

California has legalized medicinal marijuana, but I have seen numerous of the dispencaries in los angeles get raided by the DEA.

Economically. Supply and demand are inverse. Legalize it all, get rid of the drug dealers.

Exactly. The reason why drug dealers make so much, and charge so much (i've heard  ). Is because of the inherent risk involved with the entire industry. Really, they cost pennies to produce. If you allow private corporations or individuals to produce it, and sell, regulate and tax it in the same manner alcohol and tobacco are, you will eliminate the criminal element to it. If you sell it legally, you will also create a financial boom for local cities, counties and states through sales taxes.

We normally don't agree, but this time we're on the same page

I don't understand why peeps don't understand....you seize a big shipment=less street drugs out there=more value to those drugs that are out there=more cost for existing drugs=more violence, crime, etc
