Hi Mandi,

Sorry your feeling down!!! I have been having on and off days myself and we are through this visa stuff, yet being apart still continues cause my husband couldn't handle the heat here in Tucson, and headed to Northern AZ, for work, I drove up once this summer to visit him and really wanted to stay, but I got bills to pay, now he has to head home for a few months cause his father needs help getting ready for Winter, again I could drop my life down here, but bills won't get paid and I won't be able to work in Canada so I choose to be separated from him due to reality!

He is coming down this weekend to Tucson and then maybe another time before he leaves for Alberta. I will probably fly up in December on Winter Break.

I thought I was really feeling depressed, why! I don't know. I got a newish car, $ in the bank, A cell phone update, DSL internet, and a decent new job.

What's up with depression, mostly an emotional rollercoaster or a chemical imbalance that can be kicked by meds, which I don't go for either, exercise( I took a walk yesterday and felt so much better) writing to friends, calling friends, venting on a thread, writing poetry, dancing, listening to music, singing, Dont Drink, smoke, overindulge in too much sugar, you just feel worse.

I do take Evening Primrose, and Saint John's Wort, which are some natural mood enhancers.

Whatever helps.

Good Luck and feel better,

Hugs,

Moondancer

We all have our tough times that we go through in life. You just need to keep your mind strong. I know its hard, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it feels like nothing is moving everything is stagnant. It is hard to keep a positive attitude when things are like that. Its ok to feel bad, but then you have to shake it off and become stronger from the exsperience.

Thanks. My thoughts exactly. But at the same time, things just get to be overwhelming and it seems to come all at the same time. This goes wrong, then 50 more things go wrong. Just gotta hold on.

Hi Mandi,

not to make light of your situation at all, but there is a saying that you might enjoy:

"God only gives us as much as we can handle - I just wish he didn't trust me so much!"

Find ways to be nice to yourself during this process: pamper yourself - if you can't afford a full massage see if you can find a 10 minute chair massage; have a pedicure; eat comfort food; write down each day the things that are good in your life to see if that can help shift the gears a little; and yes - take a good multi-vitamin supplement because stress does rob your body of vital nutrients. especially the B vitamins - and you have enough going on that you the more you look after yourself the more resources you will have at your control to manage the stress. This will probably be one of the most stressful times of your entire life, if that is any help. Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Well, I know I can't afford a massage/pampering. And I have yet to find someone to give me a massage that feels good. LOL! I'm good at giving them, though not on myself. In my line of work, I come home in so much pain, so sore, so tired, and still feel that way when I wake up. Then, I have to go back to work and do it all over again. I don't know what kinda comfort food you're talking about, any advice there? I do think about MANY things each day that do make me feel good, but at the same time, I have so much stressing me out that it overpowers the good. I am strapped for cash. I work 5-6 days a week, and once I get paid, money goes on bills, bills, and MORE BILLS. Any brand of vitamins or type of vitamins you can suggest? I need something to boost my energy, make me feel better about myself, stop the negative thinking, and get me outta this stressful rut. Right now, I feel like the harder I try to get out, the deeper I dig a hole. :( Maybe I have a serious depression problem. I cry so much. Is it my hormones? Just seems like everything hits me all at once at full force.

If you do seriously think that you are clinically depressed, Ryan being here won't help that. You say that you'll be fine when he gets here...but clinical depression is chemical. It's not something a quick fix will work on....like your fiance getting here...I just don't want you to think he's the answer to all your problems IF YOU DO THINK you are honestly depressed.

First up, no one here can diagnose you with any type of illness, for them to do so is misleading and possibly dangerous.

If you can go see your family doctor then go see them, if you do have a problem then they may be able to help out. You should know however that drugs cannot change a situation, so most doctors will advice that you try to change the circumstances that you find yourself in (if you can of course) - drugs can only do so much.

It's very difficult being in a place that you are not comfortable and being apart from your partner. My husband is in the miltary and we have been separated for a good while now, and he is in a pretty dangerous part of the world. To begin with I couldn't cope with this, we don't have all that much money either. But then I started doing things that I could do to help myself. I started working out, doing exercise. It's a pain to begin with, but in no time at all your body starts getting a kick out of it and releasing and using all that pent up anxiety and bad chemicals. It's amazing.

You can try vitamin supplements, but you need to get moving first and foremost. You need to have a healthy body to have a healthy brain, and get rid of all the built up crapola. There are ways that you can make space for yourself even if you are living with annoying people. Get a good set of headphones, use ear plugs etc when you sleep so you get enough rest. Eat well. This may sound very hokey, but it works, it works very well indeed. I have been amazed at the changes that have occurred in my own self, and actually I'm fine now. I never had to use the drugs (and i've used them before).

Hope this helps.

Kath, I love that saying! Btw, both quotes edited for the sake of this post length...

Mandi...If you think you're clinically depressed, go see a therapist.

But as for the lethargy and just regular old fashioned depression, you should exercise. It's a good way to let off steam, has excellent health benefits, and also releases endorphins in your body which will make you feel more positive. Also, if you exercise in the morning..even with a brisk walk...studies show that you are more energetic all day long

Here's an exerpt from an article on the benefits:

5. Ease depression and manage pain and stress

Exercise fights depression by activating the neurotransmitters — chemicals used by your nerve cells to communicate with one another — associated with avoiding depression. Those neurotransmitters are serotonin and norepinephrine. The levels of those neurotransmitters and their balance with each other play a role in how you react to daily events. When you experience depression, the level of serotonin, norepinephrine or both may be out of sync. Exercise may help synchronize those brain chemicals.

Exercise also stimulates the production of endorphins — other neurotransmitters that produce feelings of well-being, provide for "natural" pain relief, and help you relax. So, did you have a stressful day at work and need to blow off some steam? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help you calm down.

Psychological Benefits of Exercise

another article called 'Mental Health Benefits of Exercise'

Yoga benefits

the list is endless! Hope this helps :)

Lisa....as much as I HATE going to the gym...the second I walk out of there I feel sooo much better. That is actually really good advice. Even just walking outside is good!! If you live in an unsafe area - get a work out DVD or tape - you can get them off ebay for cheap cheap cheap :)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
