Hi guys/gals,

First, I just wanted to let you all know that you are great! keep up the great work!

Second, I have a question. So I applied for a position at lets call it firm x, I did a phone interview first and then later was invited for the onsite interview where I spend about 4 hrs or so doing one interview after another (technical, behavorial etc)

They said they will get back with me with their decision next week and indeed I got a call from HR saying they would like to meet me.

Am I going to be presented with an offer or is this one more interview? I don't mind in either case. What are your thoughts?

Be ready to go to work. Make sure you have a firm grasp on what your salary requirements are, as this may be where this is leading. Be firm, and don't be too anxious, but don't blow it either.

It could be another interview if that x firm is a big firm. I had one phone interview followed by two in-person interviews (on different dates) before an offer was made (over the phone).

I would take it as a good sign that HR wants to see you in person. If the answer was an outright "no", they wouldn't bother.

Have you met only with HR people thus far? If so, that could have been just the initial HR screening before they refer you to the actual department you'd be working for. If you have already met with the person/people who would be your direct supervisor/co-workers,it is a sign you are well into the process.

My guess is that you have passed the first "screening process", and now HR wants to either:

1. extend an offer

2. feel you out before extending an offer

3. feel you out to decide on which position at the firm would be the best fit

I'd be prepared either way.

(Sending positive thoughts your way!! Good Luck!!)

Thank you so much for the positive thoughts!!! I certainly appreciate the blessings! :)

To clarify, I have previously met with the department's boss that I would be working with and their managers. I already had an extensive technical and behavioral interview previously.

Today they just called me in to ask me how soon I can start? and basically letting me know they will be calling my references and giving me details about their benefits package. They said they will give me a formal salary number after they have computed in through their internal formula which takes into account education, experience and the technical specialties.

I hope to get a formal offer very soon!

Thank you for your responses, I truly appreciate your help!

It is an entry level computer engineering position. The formal title is "Technical Marketing Engineer". The interview process with big companies (>1500 employees) can be often broken down into the following parts (atleast thats how it was for me) and btw just to let you, it took me 7 months to find a professional job after graduating with a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering! 7 months!

(1) Submit Application Online

(2) Pre-screening Call from HR (30 mins)

(3) First Round: Technical Phone Interview with a manager (45 minutes to 1 hour)

(4) Second Round: On-site Interview (from 8 am to 4 pm) - I met with at least 4 different groups (one was where I would be potentially hired, two were upper management executives and the last one was a organizational fit check group)

(5) I also had to do an impromptu Technical Presentation lasting 10-15 minutes.

I do not mean to scare you by the above process but gone are the days when the offer was put out in front of you after your first interview right there and then. Each organization varies its interview process but I can almost guarantee you if you are applying for a job with a >50,000 salary, you will go through at the very minimum 2 rounds of interview.

Let me know if you have any questions. One piece of advice. Do not and I repeat DO NOT give up!, if one door closes on you 1000 more open, when you dont expect to hear from an employer that's exactly when you will get the call!

Thank you for your response earlier. You were spot on!
