Mili is right... its better to file the ENTIRE package (I-130 & I-485) together to avoid delays...

Lets say you just do the I-130; that means you have to maintain your current status until approved- could take months. Then you'd have to file I-485 along with medicals and such, which could set you back by a year or more.

Put in my I-94 number on the I-130, but I have no idea what the alien registration number is of where I find it. google searches didn't help either.

Also, for F-1 students, is there expiration date on the I-94. Mine did not have one. Is that the date that my I-20 is scheduled to expire (as in when I graduate?)?

Thanks

Your I-94 probably says D/S. Write that as the expiration date on the forms.

Yep. For mine I spelled it out - "DURATION OF STATUS"

As for the alien registration number, if you are an F-1 and have never filed for immigration before, then you won't have one. I got my Alien registration number AFTER I submitted the AOS papers.

i have a follow up question...

since u said we have to file I-130 n I-485 concurrently. were just consufe about filing they together.

mid of march were getting married.

then, ill have my medical n wait for the result before we can send the I-485.

is it risky to just send the I-130 first then when my medical is in my hand will send in my I-485?

When filing for AOS from a F-1, you should filed the I-485/I-130 together. By only sending in the I-130, you carry more risk in the fact that it gives USCIS to lose more individual files because you are sending them in separately. Generally, you file both of these at the same time because you are filing for permission and for adjustment.. all at the same time.

And yes, you need to have the medical completed and sent in with the I-485.

Someone may come by to run down other risks with you and tell you specifically why to file the I-130 and I-1485 together vs. separately. If you are having financial issues (and you don't know why), you may want to look at if your spouse even meets the requirements as a sponsor and if you need a co-sponsor, will they help you with the AOS fees so you can file them properly and together.

the reason y i said financial prob bcoz he needs to catch up with his bill( for almost a yr he paid his son's car n insurancen n his son never paid him back.) his way above poverty line.

lets say we get married march 19th. then from there will start putting my name with his bank acct, insurance, bills. were worried about the medical. how long does it take to have the result? by the way i dont have shots/ vaccine...

we wanted to send the papers before april 3rd...

It took us about 2.5-3 weeks to get the medical finished and in our hands. Kyle had a record of his vaccinations, but the TB test takes a couple of days to be read. Kyle had a false positive and had to go for an xray. It then took additional time waiting for the doctor to get those xray results in and finish up the I-864 for us to pick up. Because you don't have yoru vaccination records, etc.. you will have to get all of those taken care of when you go to the civil surgeon. Some people say that their CS didn't have an issue with them going to public health dept to get some of the shots done more cheaply, but you have to check first. Kyle's CS wanted everything done there (but we didn't have to go that route because he had his records).

You may want to do some searches on the forums for the medical/I-864. If you happen to go to other forums, be sure to understand that in the position we are in, we have to have a COMPLETE medical done, not just the transcript of vaccination records part.
