Are biometrics necessary?

Hi everyone!

We're gearing up to apply for the I-751, petition to remove conditions on residence. My husband did his biometrics when we applied for the permanent residency; does he need to have them done again?

The wording on the USCIS is not quite clear to me- I guess I'm a little rusty with all the bureaucratic procedures! After all, it has been almost two years since I've had to fill out any forms.

Yes, they are necessary. People say that the biometrics are valid for a certain amount of time, but my own experience has shown me different.

You will receive a biometrics appointment after filing the I-751 so make sure to include the $80 fee in your payment.

sorry to say but yes you will need to do bio again

( once they recieved your i 751 about a week later,you will get the 1 year gc extension letter ,

also around that timeframe 1 or 2 weeks after they get your file ,you will get the bio apt letter )

Oh well... at least we got 2 years of vacation from the government!

You will very likely have to redo biometrics. Theoretically, they can only keep them on file for some limited amount of time (6 months-1 year). OTOH, there have been a number of reports in the I-751 forum recently of people being sent their 10 year cards with no biometrics appointment. Procedures may be in flux.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you have to do biometrics, they'll send you a notice. It'll be just the same as last time.

And if you don't, you don't. Either way, easy peasy.

Lol. it has been 2 years since the last fingerprints. You know how many DUIs, murders and bank robberies have taken place during this 2 years? They want to make sure no funny business on the applicants part during the conditional period. That's not to say we can go on a spree once we get the 10 yr cards. There's always renewal or N-400 to deal with.
