Sweet. More jobs for Americans.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Gotta give credit to Obama for supporting nuclear power which was ridiculously demonized for 30 years.

one plant won't do squat ... the n-stamp companys are already geared up and supporting efforts in china for the AP1000 design builds.

RPV fabrication is currently restricted. so ... get in line.

a greenfield startup will take how long to secure a site from the nimby's? years?

if obama actually read the NP2010 estimates, jobs creation would be quite significant ... this however was based on 40 new GEN III+ units. this one unit .... pffffttt ... more show on his part.

meanwhile ...

it's actually 2 units but I get your drift. The longest journey starts with a single step. Can I get a hug?

I think many new units will be built near existing plants on utility property.

nukeworker.com has forums that are discussing this.

 you get a hug :luv: ... it's two boilers ... one plant

there are also license extensions happening ....

new plant designs side-by-side with older designs on the same property will create a nightmare for logistics, site training, paper trail (this is really quite extensive for safety related (seismic/eq equipment)). if there are two different generation/type of boilers ... the operation/support mechanism should really be totally independent.

nei, iaea, wna, publications (nuclear street, user group sites, etc) all have loads of info.

"The loans could provide financial backing for a pair of new nuclear reactors at Southern Company’s Vogtle Electric Generating Plant in Georgia, which currently operates two units and generates 2,400 MW of nuclear power."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AP1000

The AP1000 is a pressurized water reactor with 2 loops and 2 steam generators each. They will be completely seperate systems. The reactor plants I operated in the navy could have their steam plants cross-connected. One reactor could operate 2 steam plants. These wimpy civilian plants can't.

actual plant equipment requirements are much lower for the AP1000 than previous generation pwr's. the new epr will have more equipment than the pwr ... yet lower than the originals.

I'm very exited.

That nukeworker site is designed around the travelling 'road #######' who will actually work at these plants.

are you a ... um ... #######?

the new designs have some pretty harsh eq requirements. more so than the previous gen's, especially in loca/mslb/seismic. these are also 60 yr design life so the base aging of equipment during qualification takes longer.
