“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Just out of interest, I see you asked for suggestions on what to write, but no replies... What did you end up writing to your congressman? Do you think that they sorted it out that quick, or was it just a coincidence?

Im just wondering, as Im preparing myself for this happening to us too, as it seems to happening to ALOT of people im reading. We wont be filing until the end of May, as Im not even there yet, hopefully they will get themselves sorted by then, but, I doubt that will happen any time soon

I think it could of been 50/50. We wrote that my husband was a veteran and we were having troubles, along with the whole RFE story... About a page long in word. We spent 2 hours going over it Monday morning to make sure it was well worded and correct...

Its just a sigh of relief and I really want to start searching for a decent job now :).

I hope so too. We probably won't file until the end of April or sometime in May, since he'll be moving here mid-April.

Hey..

Hoorah!!!! just noticed this UK AOS thread!! Feel more at home now!!

Just noticed n someones post that it says....."January 25, 2010: Early Walk-in biometrics completed, EAD approved" i've got my biometrics appointment but its not for like 3 weeks, do you guys know if i can just make an appointment and get it done early?? Will this speed up the process????

Also anyone had problems getting an SSN?? I was under the impression that i would be able to get one before my EAD was processed, i've been to the SSN office and there is some sort of hold up (got to verify docs or something... seems they cant find my immigration papers, or rather they say it hasn't been processed yet) grrrr so made an appointment with USCIS to check if they had them (they do.. well says its all there in the system) but this guy told me i couldn't get an SSN until i get my EAD??? is this true???? feeling very frustrated can't get bank account, drivers license, cant start building credit history etc... all making me feel very sad!!! ohmy.gif(

Any thoughts????

Thanks

L

Hey Lirwin,

Welcome to the thread! Wow, that doesn't sound right to me. I thought you could apply for your SSN before anything is approved through AOS. Please keep us updated on your situation!!

That guy who told you that you need an EAD first is wrong. K1s are fairly rare cases for SSN office so they generally have no idea what they're doing and you need to ask to speak to a supervisor...you should follow the guides here on VJ about getting a SSN and do a quick search on how other people have handled the situation because apparently it's pretty common for this kind of mix-up. Good luck!

grrr ok...I'll ring the SSN place again today then and talk to the supervisor!!!

On a lighter note, I managed to rock up to USCIS and get my biometrics done.... :o) (Three weeks earlier than my appointment!!) not sure if this will speed process up but worth a try!!!!

Does anyone out there know if we can go to the Civil Surgeon before the wedidng to get the 1693 completed?

Or does it HAVE to be after the wedding?

I have tried to find the answer to this all over the site, so thought I would give it a go with my fellow brits!

I did mine before we were married. We had everything ready. All we were waiting on was the wedding certificate and then we filed AOS the following day.

Here's a question. I was reading in the guides a few weeks back that you should wait a couple of weeks upon the foreign fiance's arrival to apply for a SSN. This gives all the government agencies time to have his info in all their databases (or so the guides said). So, I was curious, for those of you who have applied for your fiance's SSN, how long did you wait after he/she arrived? Is it true that the AOS process is easier if you wait to get your SSN before you send off for AOS?
