Hello all,

I am a US Citizen and applied for my wife last year and she got her green card last year (July 2009) and her father is alone living in France and he is retiring. He is Citizen of Iran, but has lived in France as permanent resident for almost 40 yrs, and we would like to bring him here to live with us as he is fairly old and has no one else. Can we apply for him and bring him here? Is there a way, or do we need to wait for my wife to become a US Citizen first?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance :star::blush:

You can never petition for him (no eligibility for "in-laws") and you wife is not eligible until she obtains citizenship

YMMV

I'm sorry but you'll have to wait until your wife is a USC, only USC´s can petition their parents. (can't petition in-laws)

Thank you for your quick replies, poor guy will be devastated to hear this. Can he come here and stay for a while every now and then? What is the max amount of time a tourist is allowed to stay here?

for a VWP entry then it is 90 days max

if he has a tourist visa then the stay could be 6 mos. but the amount of actual allowable is determined at the border at time of entry

YMMV

I suggest you also consider medical insurance.
