I'm Canadian and have been married to an American since September 2008 and i'm going to be concurrently filing my I-130 & I-485 together from within the USA. Once/if my AOS is approved and I receive my green card I plan on joining the US military to begin providing a better life for my wife and I, is there anything I can do to use this to my advantage when i'm filing the paperwork?

The reason i'm asking is because I heard that if you file an EAD with a letter from a future employer it could speed up the process in your getting your EAD approved. So I thought maybe if my plans were known it could help my situation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

without some sort of expedite request it is difficult to imagine how the file would be identified for speedier service.... The USCIS is a machine that alledgedly processes the queue in the order received.

YMMV

I haven't seen/heard about that...

but how will an ead allow you to join the US military?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Oh I see, i'm not sure how the USCIS functions or goes through the packages when they receive them, I thought maybe if I made it known somehow in my package it could possibly help me out.

edit: I wasn't planning on filing an EAD to join the US military, it's just an idea I had when I heard that a letter from the employer could help speed up the EAD approval. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not, when I heard that I thought maybe if I made my plans on joining the military known it could help my case.

When the file comes in the door it is entered into the system by some sort of limited intake process... An intense detailed review of the case is not done at that time...

From what I remember, the USCIS has something like 30 days to review an expedite request and it is done on a case by case basis by the Director. Since the EAD process takes but about 60 days you might hinder yourself sitting in the expedite review process rather than simply enduring "normal" processing

YMMV

I requested and expedite and they said it takes 5 days to make a decision. It has been over 10 and I haven't heard from them....I know however that they have send me a letter requesting additional information and it seems like it is better to wait for the normal process. That is if I ever get a biometrics appointment...
