Is it critical to have the Affidavits from friends and family notarized? A family friend of ours who just went through the I-751 process about 3 months ago told me that none of his affidavits (including the one we provided to he and his wife) were notarized. She just received her 10 yr Green Card without any problems. So any thoughts or opinions on notary stamps?

This is a topic that has been discussed many times without really identifying a complete answer. Some people send them notarized and others don't. USCIS requests sworn affidavits and I am not sure what they really mean with that.

I sent in mine notarized. The way I looked at it, if it is needed then I complied with their requirement - and if they don't, then it won't hurt to have it notarized.

If your friend got approved, then I suggest you get an exact wording of his and send that in.

Good luck!

There's no yes or no answer to this question. Many people sent it notorized and many sent it without it being notorized and no one had an RFE yet or been denied because of that.

A friend of mine submitted one notarized and one not notarized and was appoved. How about the person who is making the statement's need to put their social security number on the letter? The current instructions for the I-751 do not state this is necessary, only their date of birth and place of birth (and full name and address and relationship).

Yes - make sure you keep record of everything for the next two years and make sure both names appear on the documents.

Receiving biometrics letter is not an indication that you are off the hook. When it is time to check your petition is the time when they think they either need more evidence or they are satisfied with what you sent. If you have enough evidence, then you shouldn't worry about affidavits.

good luck

It is a good idea to include the A# on the letters in case they get mixed up.
