Candidate for MSEE.

I didn't say that to impress. I said that no matter which field, engineering, medicine....etc. There are peer edits. Even PH.Ds do peer edits.

Heck, Einstein has peer edits. Even Lisa Randall from Harvard (Physics professor) needs peer edit. The point is that it is common practice.

if the peers english skills are no better ... someone has to clean up the mess before legal can read ... unless you publish for yourself or academia.

if you are working ... typically legal for the company wants to review.

The Dems bring that on themselves.

The people gave them an agenda, a majority in congress and the white house. What did they do with it, they keep Pu$$y footing around with the republican, they show NO BALLS, and felt right through the republican trap, Stuff that even a little kid can see what's happening or any mom who have kids that keep throwing tantrum when they can't get their way.

The republican don't have nothing to gain by working with the democrats, from DAY ONE, they are asking and wishing for the Failure of the president (and they call that Patriotic). with that in Mind,

WHY ON EARTH THEY KEPT BENDING BACKWARD to the republicans whom they already know has become the party of NO < NO > NO to whatever comes their way.

Even going to change from Dem to Independent because all of these crooks keep taking our votes for granted.

That was one last chance we had for reform, for changes, WE ARE DOOM, we should just change the constitution and

In the USPO, they have designated people who are from the field who can understand the technical jargon and apply the rubber stamp on a particular patent for legality.

For example, if this person A is an electrical engineer and he filed a patent, the patent officer examining is an electrical engineer.

that is patent ... you are forgetting the language skills required to properly prepare the paperwork and to deal with legal (should you be working for a company). if the grammar is sub 6th grade because ESL ... oh well ... best of luck.

patent applications are different from country to country ... timing is important as well as language. translations are important. if the native application is in english ... it better be good..

There are requirements on whatever society the call for papers is for.

In the IEEE Spec requirements for papers, they list what they want on the paper. If you're presenting it at at symposium, they will have a team of people that will help with peer editing the paper. The symposium has people who been in the field for 30 years or more. Well, many of them are professors. But, there are also Industry leaders as well.

The only legal part that most of these people goes through is really through the USPO. The technical work isn't really designed for lawyers to read. It's useless to them. Heck, even lawyers only look over the USPO documentation.

academia ... maybe.

industry ... legal gets heavily involved due to trade secrets and patentable (marketable) items. that is in a proper company (not some mom & pop shop)

working for a company ... and giving away a patent to your competition because you are stupid and didn't protect properly ... can result in termination and/or legal action against you.

In the company, you document your work in a notebook. Whatever research you do. You hardly write technical papers for lawyers either.

You present your work to your boss in less jargon than what you keep in your research notebook. The research notebook is heavily monitored by the company. And, you must leave it inside the company prior to leaving work. If you work in a heavily confidential area, the notebook is always checked in and out.

There is no translation needed or English that needs to be written correctly inside those notebooks. When you present stuff to your boss, you write something that is an abstraction and straight to the point.

The User Guides for example for many DSP chips such as the TI MSP430 mixed signal microcontrollers are written more by an English major than an Engineering major.

Engineers are delegated by the boss to spend more time on their research and documenting it inside a notebook. They spend very little time to put everything together for proper English. Even if they do need it, the English majors are there to write them out.

yup .. the papers are better written by non engineers because engineers don't have the skills ...

Today's ruling is another nail in the coffin for democracy in this country, it has given big money/corporations the freedom to dictate who can run the country. The whole point of democracy was to take the power away from the wallet (ie the rich who called the shots) and into the hands of the people. Presidents, Senators and Representatives will no longer be "elected" but "purchased".........we're on our way towards a fascist system.
