i know some engineers with fantastic communication skills. part of their curriculum dealt with communication and it shows.

other engineers ... they talk in 1's and 0's ... or physical stuff and can't coherently order breakfast at mcdonalds ... yet can tweak the numbers.

The ones who can communicate got the better education. They can write technical manuals for the masses. One of my brothers is an engineer, and a very good technical writer.

You got it all wrong that they are very good with English. Heck, last time I checked they have peer edits when they write papers for publications when there's a "call for papers".

i also work with a lot of foreign born engineers ... from top schools ... and english is a second language. re-writes of papers are common and it usually takes marcomm and the engineering team time to decipher their write-ups. legal won't even look at the papers until the grammar is above a 6th grade level. hence ... deadlines are interesting or missed.

nice thing about engineers of this type ... they are cheap to hire.

I didn't say that to impress. I said that no matter which field, engineering, medicine....etc. There are peer edits. Even PH.Ds do peer edits.

Heck, Einstein has peer edits. Even Lisa Randall from Harvard (Physics professor) needs peer edit. The point is that it is common practice.
