I have a question about the I-129F form for the fiance visa. I meet my fiance through eHarmony and I was wondering if I had to mark question 19, which states, "Did you meet your fiancé(e) or spouse through the services of an international marriage broker?", as "Yes".

Also, I was wondering if I could send in the form and all the attachments that will be going with it in a three ring binder or would the government frown on that?

We can't help you answer questions 19 for you if you don't give us more details about it.

From what I've read, the government likes ACCO binders and paper clips...

I don't think eHarmony constitutes a marriage broker. I think you're safe with answering no on that question.

I think the definition of an "International Marriage Broker" is clear as mud! :P Seriously though, I would call EHarmony just to be sure. Better to know now rather than later.

eharmony is not a marriage broker and I think that the company would frown on even being considered as one.

Some VJs have e-mailed the websites through which they've met their fiances and were told they were not marriage brokers. So they checked the definition and decided themselves whether to check Yes or No, attaching an extra sheet to clarify the answer.

MarkZ,

Don't know if they'll frown on it - it will be easy enough to remove everything from the binder, which they will do and then throw the binder away. Don't let the holes you punch obliterate any information.

My Opinion;

I would not classify EHarmony as a International Broker, just an internet dating service. EHarmony doesn't charge to find you a spouse-just for providing an avenue to meet someone that you may want to meet, which could lead to marriage, or just a companion.

I would not use a 3-4 ring binder for your papers. The Nebraska NSC site says: " two hole punching the top of the forms would make easier for them to file". It suggested using ACCO fastners (Didn't say what type). It also says "Don't use methods that will make the documents hard to seperate/sort/file". (Not exact words)

I found a file folder that has one inside divider with (ACCO type) two hole prongs (for lack of another name) on the inside cover, both sides of the divider, and the inside back cover.

I two hole punched (See caution below) the top of the cover and attached my cover letter (with a plastic clear sheet over it) with ACCO brass fastners (2) that have prongs that spread.

I put my I-130 on the inside cover, my G-325 on the adjascent inside divider, my wife's G-325 on the other side of the divider, and all supporting documents on inside of the back cover.

I also tabbed the pages on the bottom of the forms/attachments using stick-em tabs (they are soft/flexible) and wrote on the tabs (using the same color tab for each form, and it's related attachment) what it was I.e. G-325 page 1, page 2, etc., or G325 attach, etc.

I probably went over-board, but figured it might put a smile on the NSC person's face.

CAUTION: If 2 hole punching-you may have to figure a way (rig your puncher) to prevent the forms from punching out the form numbers. If your using the carbon copy G-325, it of course, is already 2 hole punched. But if you measure the depth to the top of the G-325 holes-you will find that the holes aren't as far in as a standard two hole punch will put em-hince punch out part of the I-130 form number. I'm not sure if they would care-but I didn't take any chances.

Good Luck!

Bernie

Best of Luck!

Sincerely!

Bernie

If you paid money for the address or any contact information, then the Government thinks you dealt with a Marriage Broker.

Put the name and address of eHarmony to complete #19. DOn't play with USCIS. They'll make your K-1 process hell.

Don't use a binder. Get an ACCO fastner, it's a long metal strip that you use to hold together papers with 2 hole punches. Punch the top of your packet and connect everything with the ACCO fastner.

Check out the general guides to assembling your packet on the USCIS website.

whether to say yes or no was debated alot recently as this is a brand new IMBRA questinaire you are speaking of. My guess is to say NO. Because e-Harmony does not specilize in foreign marriages. In any event in your final interview you can explain this. Actually their is a exact definition of a international marriage broker around here somewhere, I am sure someone can tell you how to read it, actually it should be in your own forms I think. Still I would say no.

Regardon a big 3 ring binder I would say NO. Maybe a slender one or better yet Punch holes at the top of everything and put those simple steel rings around the paperwork through those holes.

Good Luck
