:secret: more like if you expect for me to buy them, given i'm in kansas and we do have this feature called hailstorms (maybe you've heard of them?), they'd better meet some pretty strict impact resistance requirements ;)

Well then best be prepared when solar power takes off in Kansas. :jest:

We want solar too, because we're cheap (not quite freegans, just part Jewish) and want to become as self-reliant on our piece of land under the sun as possible... I don't think Fl has much hailstorms so we'll be ok with them, right? also I want to eventually get an electric car and plug it into the solar system, is that feasible? The fake turf - do dogs ####### on it or do we have to get rid of the dogs?

For solar to be effective several key objectives must be met.

First is a clear unobstructed view of the sun. Congress can pass a law for the clouds not to interfere with the sun as they are good at passing laws that cannot be enforced.

Second is that the sun is visible for a good portion of the day, here we run into latitude problems, but we all can be moved to the equator to solve that problem.

Third is that the panel have to be perpendicular to the rays of the sun, can be solved by complex panel tracking mechanisms.

Forth, they must be kept clean, but this could create a solar panel cleaning union that would charge more than what the panels can produce.

Fifth is a major problem, to store excess energy collected during the day to be used at night when it's needed the most. I did get a patent on a solar powered flashlight, but haven't been able to license it yet, it's only works in the day time.

I don't know much about solar, we just generate electricity from the treadmills we're forced to run on for a few hours each day, lol.. just kidding... hey, how about that idea btw? lol Charge up a few batteries from electricity generated by gym equipment in the gym down the road

Seriously though, I'm all for new technology and living and being self reliant on the piece of earth we own, and we'll definetely be looking into using some sort of new invention to off set the cost of having to pay for electricity or water... we're looking at a new house to buy now, lot size and ability to dig for a well is top priority as I love to grow veggies and I'd love to have some fruit trees.

Nick was talking about his invention of a solar powered flashlight that wouldn't work in the dark. If there is some relevance in your post to it, please let me know.
