Pat Robertson: Haiti has reaped what it sowed

I saw this press release.

Statement Regarding Pat Robertson's Comments on Haiti

CBN.com – VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 13, 2010 --On today’s The 700 Club, during a segment about the devastation, suffering and humanitarian effort that is needed in Haiti, Dr. Robertson also spoke about Haiti’s history. His comments were based on the widely-discussed 1791 slave rebellion led by Boukman Dutty at Bois Caiman, where the slaves allegedly made a famous pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the French. This history, combined with the horrible state of the country, has led countless scholars and religious figures over the centuries to believe the country is cursed. Dr. Robertson never stated that the earthquake was God’s wrath. If you watch the entire video segment, Dr. Robertson’s compassion for the people of Haiti is clear. He called for prayer for them. His humanitarian arm has been working to help thousands of people in Haiti over the last year, and they are currently launching a major relief and recovery effort to help the victims of this disaster. They have sent a shipment of millions of dollars worth of medications that is now in Haiti, and their disaster team leaders are expected to arrive tomorrow and begin operations to ease the suffering.

I dont agree with what he said but I have to admit that the world is a much better place with Roberson in it, he and his organization have done alot around the world to help the less fortunate. To say this statement is idiotic would be true but to say he doesnt care about these people or hes trying to kick them while there down is just as idiotic.

In that case the people besides those living in Port-au-Prince, like in New York City, LA, San Francisco, St. Louis, Nashville, Caracas, Japan, just to name a few better start to change their ways and send money to Pat Robertson because they also live in earthquake zones. If they send money to Pat, maybe he will pray for them and he will change the course of nature in this ever changing planet we were stuck on.

Hear people say that God is punishing them with the mosquito, is it that, or is it because you moved into a mosquito infected area. After all, they were there first.

Pat can't say that the people of Port-au-Prince weren't warned, they were, but not by him, but by these guys. Hati earthquake zone. Pat never could foretell the future, is one of those guys that said, you were naughty and not much of a scientist either. But God did give him a big mouth and too bad, a small narrow minded brain to go with it.

As Nagi said, Pat Robertson is not a Catholic. The Dominican Republic is predominantly Catholic as well as Haiti. Their former President was a priest.

Sally Struthers has done great things too, I don't hear her making statements like that.

Or if you want to get more religious Mother Theresa did more humanitarian work then a human possibly could, and never made statements like that in her life.

What PR said was cruel and unnecessary in a time when ppl need compassion the most. And yes, when you make statements like the ones he did, and to believe it was not derogatory or that it dosen't seem to be cold or uncaring is like not knowing that I'm calling you and idiot after I just called you an idiot. Kinda like what you called me earlier right?

So, if you had tragedy bestowed onto you or your family you would be ok with me telling you. "Well you didn't live your life according to the rules of my BS religion so, you made your bed..." You would be appalled, even more so if I went on TV to say it. So yes, it does come off sounding like PR doesn't care.

John Wayne Gacy did community projects and ppl thought he cared too. Not saying PR is anywhere close what JWG was but my point being that ppl that do good things are capable of doing and saying horrible things as well. There are dualities in life you know?

Imagine if PR said this to a good, God fearing place say like....... The Mississippi flood zones where there are many Christians. Would his statements fly there? I think not. There would be public outrage.

I know exactly what he means. I'm a Christian who believes Pat Robertson was wrong and insensitive to say that but I am still being put in that category by a judgemental person.

The fact of the matter is that Pat Robertson's ministry HAS done helpful things for the world's poor at least in the past(I have not followed what he does or his show for a long time). That doesn't make what he said okay, and he should be held accountable of course. Religious zealots are defined differently. Some people here would (and I'm sure do) think of me as a zealot just because I do try to live a certain way or believe certain things.

So I wouldn't say all zealots cause harm for the world, sometimes being zealous over an issue that is important to you like feeding/helping the poor is a good thing, and if they happen to be religious too, I don't care.

The world is NOT better off with Pat Robertson in it. He does good with his charities, but at the same time, spreads hatred and discent. His charities are disgustingly biased to only help those that HE supports. I'm not saying he should die or anythnig like that, but I refuse to acknowledge that the good charity work he does outweighs the disgusting hatred he breeds.
