fiance in the interview

Hello!

My fiance will be visiting me in summer and he was wondering if he HAS TO attend to my interview (that hopefully will be around summer). I told him almost sure that not that some people go with their fiances for the interview to support.

I thought that triple ask it doesn't hurt... anyone thinks that if he isn't there for the interview could be bad for an approval or as i heard it doesn't matter if he's there or not.

Nothing that we're worrying too much just curious to know.

Thanks to everybody! :)

It is good he will be there for a visit- however, most embassies will not allow him to attend the interview.

Most K-1's petitioners are not at their beneficiaries interview, and they pass it just fine.

You may want to ask the embassy if it's permitted, if not, he can still go and provide moral support :)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

This is not "worst-case scenario" advice. Also, the "most petitioners" and "most embassies" comments require information that support those statements, if they're to be believable.

It is always, always advisable for the U.S. petitioner to be as close to the interview as possible -- whether this is in the embassy interview, the embassy waiting area, the embassy grounds, or outside on the sidewalk. If the petitioner is not allowed in the interview, he/she can give his/her U.S. passport to the interviewee, who can show it to the CO in the interview. Doing this will definitely add to the evidence of relationship, and it may mean the difference between issuance or refusal of the visa.

I have no specific information or knowledge regarding interviews in Spain.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Petitioners do not HAVE TO attend interviews. I always suggest they do. Some consulates do not allow them into the interview in which case you bring their passport in to show they are present. I strongly recommend that the petitioner plan to be at the interview.

Gary do you know when the best time to advise the embassy that the petitioner will be going? I will be going with John but I'm not sure if he should just send a letter back with packet 3 stating I will be attending or what we should do?

That wasn't advice - that was an observation, subtle difference, i know, based on the cases here and from what I've read at other sources. Most people do not attend the interviews in other countries and have no issues.

You would notice in my complete post, I suggested that it's good for him to be there, and for the OP to ask the embassy if he would be permitted to attend the interview.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Here is the number to call and ask. Some allow it and some don't as Bobby said, but I wouldn't have him make a special trip to sit in the waiting area or anything. If he is going there anyway during that time by all means take him with ya, but otherwise it's a big expense for nothing. If you get denied or approved it won't be because he's sitting out to be with you. Best of luck to you.
