I think we should ban HFCS.

At minimum, we should close the "HFCS loophole."

I wouldn't argue that HFCS isn't bad for you. However, this study really isn't the end all that it seems to claim to be. The results are essentially inconclusive. Weight gain was the same. HFCS wasn't proven to cause weight gain. Calories were proven to cause weight gain.

They think long term effects would be different. That's a good hypothesis. It's not proof.

Please don't give anyone ideas.

The same folks who defend UNLIMITED ABORTION on the grounds that, "it's a womans right" to decide what to do with her body will be all for controlling what that woman eats and what size her body is.

Just sayin

It shouldn't be illegal I think. Yet I would never eat it, but I think responsibility for one's own health should be with the individual. I just read ingredient lists and soon you will know the brands that don't contain crappy stuff. It's that easy.

And as I mentioned before, obesity is just one side effect, and frankly not the worst. Like I said, other effects of that stuff are scarier to me. I can control my weight just fine.

HFCS is a phenomenon I only encountered in the US... I think it is unique to the market here. Like soda in Europe always contains sugar, never HFCS. And why does bread have more than 5 ingredients? Never saw that before either... I just buy the brands that are free of the stuff, no preservatives and God knows what. We also are looking into a breadmaker, I think we'll like it a lot.

Look at the original article and it tells you why we have it in the US. Corn subsidies. Most problems in the US can be traced back to the federal government.

(I have a late Christmas present coming in the mail (Breadmaker).)

As for making it Illegal, I"ll tell you what I would do is; begin expanding the items people can buy with the food stamp program.

Why should we the tax payer be paying to wreck the health of the very people we will have to pay healthcare for?

People on Food stamps should be getting "BAsic and healthy food".

There is HFCS in Canada - it is not a US only thing.

I am living proof that eating too much will make you fat  I found that I didn't heed to my body telling me it was full and continued to eat. After almost reaching 300 pounds I have reversed what I was doing and so far having success by loosing 1 pound a week. I did falter a bit on Christmas eve and Christmas day  but am back to eating properly.

I agree that there are many messed up things with subsidies and Co. Foodstamps only ever work for the crappiest foods available... I think I once read somewhere that when HFCS was introduced, there was a shortage of cane sugar and industries looked for a cheap replacement. There always was so much corn, hence HFCS was born...

My county and most of the country gives Food Stamp clients POS cards that they can use at any store with POS. Items like booze and cigarettes can be purchased with the card but wholesome foods are available so am not sure what you are saying about food stamps.

Healthy foods are not pushed by advertising. Healthy foods are not tampered with chemically to produce addictive behaviours. Healthy foods don't produce a desire to over eat. Healthy foods aren't perceived as sexy, fun or as contributing to the US economy. Health foods suck.
