That's not what I meant. If anything, they may have live chickens and various other small mammals that passengers can purchase to throw out in shoots for entertainment purposes like they do in some zoo's ....

I'm well aware of your meaning and well aware of China's sub-par practices toward animals.

I think its lame that the US does not even have a basic bullet train. California has some big dreams for one, but no cash to make it happen.

But this quote by the Chinese is some way short of reality. The TGV, with a little bit of technical preparation, can do a bit better, like 575km/h.

Maybe that's true ('m sure it is) but maybe the Chinese are talking about cruising speed, not a world-record attempt.

They said "train link" - not world record speed - so they were talking about fastest average speed relative to those in other countries.

By comparison, the average for high-speed trains in Japan was 243 kilometres per hour while in France it was 277 kilometres per hour, said Xu Fangliang, general engineer in charge of designing the link, according to Xinhua.

That was a great video - I wasn't sure if the 3 musketeers in the "cockpit" were minor provincial administrators or actually driving the thing.
