hi everyone

1.) Do u think the Customs .....

If it makes you uncomfortable to bring it, then pull the hard drive out and ship that by fedex while hauling the rest of the PC with you. there is no software on a computer that has no hard drive other than the BIOS. Or toss the Drive and get a new one with legal software when you arrive here.

Better to put it in a Balikbayan box with other belongings. FedEx too expensive just for that.

just reformat the hard drive and when you get to the states download XP again or buy a new OS. Easy to do just dont bring pirated software. Ive takeing my laptop every time i leave. plus i have all my software on copies because don't want to travel with originals I may ruin them never get questioned about them.

Let me share my experience.

More than a year ago, I also experienced the same concern like yours, which is either to bring my laptop with me or not in coming over here in US. My laptop has an original OS (Microsoft Vista) though, but other softwares were pirated. But still, I brought my laptop with me as a hand carry (on its laptop casing/bag) despite of its condition because the files inside were very important to me specially some NCLEX reviewers that I installed and saved on it.

There was no problem I encountered on it to the custom/immigration. My laptop just went through to the X-ray machines and the custom personnel did not even bother to boot it on.

I think Bill Gates thru Microsoft Company will do the scrutiny of your computer once you'll get here through its viruses and worms that will destroy and deactivate any pirated softwares you have there in your laptop. It happened to my laptop after using it around 6 months after I arrived here in US.

Just don't bring pirated CDs/DVDs because Philippines is one of the countries identified with rampant piracy of CDs/DVDs. It may cause you in trouble.

I am fan of external HDD.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

It wasnt worth the risk to my wife. Our being together with no problems along the way was all that mattered. She left her laptop behind with her best friend and nothing illegal was a concern then.

We both live by the phylosophy of "do the next right thing". That way we dont have to worry about our choices in life, or suffer the consequences of doing what is wrong.

A new laptop is easily had. A second chance with immigration is not so easy to come by.
