Kinda funny that I'm working on a USPS Claims form for the cell phone that was stolen a while back...

Yes it takes 5 weeks to get to Algeria, but I was happy every thing else (other than the phone got there).

When mailing for my Algerian visa, I used a USPS Overnight envelope, I sent it on a Monday before 2 p.m. and it got there Thursday at 3 p.m. and it was a physical address I sent it to, go figure... It was the same story for the round trip back.

This was within the United States.

Twice I have used USPS Global express to mail stuff to Olga in Russia and was able to know exactly when it cleared Russian customs, that really surprised me!

Edit: I was able to track it the whole way (through customs anyway) AND it was considerably cheaper the UPS/FedEx or DHL! About $25@

I'm baffled. If regular mail takes 3-5 days. Is there a point in priority mail? They say it takes 2-4 days domestic. I'm asking because I'm a little peeved with them today. I overnighted my I-864 on the 18th & using delivery confirmation, I found out they just received it this morning. Hmmmm.....If overnight means days? What does the rest of it really mean?

Not only that, but a few weeks ago, I mailed cards to all my British inlaws & every single one of them was delivered back to me. I took them back to the post office thinking that perhaps I didn't put enough postage on them. But the nice man behind the desk told me that it had nothing to do with postage. It was just a mistake. Now I've missed my mum in-law's bday!!! ARG!!! Maybe the big To & From confused them!

...anyone else have problems with them?

if you want something to actually arrive overnight, DON'T send it USPS. Use Fed-Ex or similar.

I was sending something to the UK with their automated postal system and the 'United Kingdom' is not on the list of countries.

I should add that while I was able to track my stuff going to Russia (USPS Global Express, as mentioned in my previous post), it was faster then air mail BUT still took ~2 weeks to get to her!

I personally haven't had any trouble with USPS, using Priority Mail. Honestly, I neevr use regular mail's overnight service because it never arrives overnight--I use UPS or FedEx for that.

I'm always telling my hubby how much more efficient our postal service is than the Royal Mail...lol. Guess I have to eat my words on that one! :)

I don't think the USPS is more efficient than the Royal Mail, but even with the same level

of efficiency they would still be slower because the US is a much bigger country.

I have had more problems with Íslandspóstur than USPS. We sent a present to his niece and sent it surface (which you never ever should do)... apparently all USPS surface mail waits until the ship is full and then goes to Germany customs before going to its destination country. So that was slow enough. Then Íslandspóstur never bothered to tell his sister that she had a package and sent it back to the States the day before she finally called and asked after it. So I sent it again airmail.

We also have gotten something like 3 or 4 packages held up at Icelandic customs, so they could read my sappy handmade card or whatever.

But I have to thank Íslandspóstur since them sending back a package after 4 months was what caused us to start talking on email.
