Wow! This is the best birthday gift ever. My birthday and AOS interview on the same day.My interview was at the Houston office for 9:30am today. My wife and I got there at about 8:45am and we were called in by 9:00am. Our IO (Mr. Moore) called us and walked us into his office. He was an elderly looking man who took his time. Meanwhile, as we got into his office, he asked us to remain standing and then made us take the oath.

He then asked to see our driver’s license and upon showing him that, he said “ Same address? That is very nice”. He then went on talking about his former profession as a consultant then I told him my wife and I were one as well. Unbelievably, we began talking about computer systems and then our discussion led to different countries we’ve visited he then brought out the stamp to put on my passport. While doing that, I guess he got too engrossed in our conversation that he was almost stamping my passport with the 10Year green card before he now remembered that he had not verified the information on our G325 and I-485 and that we are only a few months married. He took my AP and EAD and then stamped my passport with the 1-year Green card and said the Card, which is valid for 2 years, should get to us in the mail within a few weeks. He also told us about removing the conditions on the card and then…off we went. He also made a comment saying “ your responsibility was to prove to me that you guys are truly married and you have proved it and made my job easy”. Good-bye he also said and off we went. Total time for the interview was approximately 7minutes plus another 20mins for chit chatting!

What I learnt from this interview was:

(1) Go as prepared as you can be even though my IO never asked us for any evidence, not even 1

(2) Go with the flow of the IO. If he/she is friendly, appear friendly as well but do not go over board or be too comfortable

(3) For those worried about intent, I would not bother about that as what is most crucial is proving that the marriage is legit just like my IO told me. Especially in my case, I had left the country while married which clearly would have shown intent but that never came up in the interview.

(4) Above all, have faith, pray and God will show up in your case.

Congratulations! I'm glad that you got a friendly IO. You'd have been fine even if you'd got a mean one, I'm sure, but, still, it just makes it so much more pleasant when you get somebody friendly.
