Ok, I'm once again in need of help finding a substitute for a recipe I'm making.

I am making a paella tonight and need some ideas on what non-pork product I can replace the chorizo with.

Any ideas would be appreciated! :)

Thank you in advance

There are several suggestions and recipes there - some are for going " all chicken" and others offer kosher/ halal sausage substitutes. Hope that helps

I just picked up some Trader Joe's vegan soy chorizo this weekend from the one off 35E. I think it was $2. I haven't ever had "real" chorizo, so I don't know how authentic it is, but people who've had both say that the soy version is a pretty good substitute. AbuS couldn't believe it wasn't real meat.

Another option is to just make your own using a mixture of ground turkey and beef. There are a bunch of recipes on the internet. I was planning on trying this one (with beef and turkey) out and running a taste comparison of this and the soy one for one of my latina friends who knows authentic mexican cuisine.

Aidell's sausage company makes great chicken sausages...I forget what animal though they use for casings.

Ah yeah, always check that. If one doesn't eat zabiha (meat slaughtered in the islamic manner), be extra sure to check it out. A lot of turkey and chicken sausages are still cased in pork.

They use pork and sheep casings. The chicken one they have is delicious and made w/ sheep casings.

I (L) Aidell's sausage and knew the chicken ones didn't have pork casings (I remember checking), but couldn't remember what kind of casing it was. Thanks for the info! They are really hard to find here and I usually have to "stumble" across them at Sam's club on occasion. We make an awesome tagine of the little "smokies" ones w/ tomatoes....Mmmmm!

they have several varieties of chicken ones, some of which do include pork casings. like the chicken apple one.

Ingredients

Chicken, Dried Apples, Fruit Juice Concentrate (Apple, Pineapple, Pear, and Peach), Salt, Spices, and Sodium Nitrite, in a Pork Casing.

i was just at costco a few days ago, looking for some with my mom. she wanted to make a strata for a breakfast party she was having for her cousin. several of my cousins, aunts, uncles etc. are christians who do not eat pork products. she ended up buying some ground chicken and making her own sausage with grill seasoning, fennel, and some other spices. it's really easy, and i make it all the time with halal ground chicken. it's good for breakfast sandwiches, spaghetti, everything.
