Like today, they had that pre mixed salad in a bag marked down to 79 cents. there was nothing wrong with it, just the date expired so I bought 4 packages and the cream cheese was a dollar and the crackers were on sale for 2.50 so all of that was cheaper than chips and dip. I found some el cheapo salad dressing for a buck, so if you look and compare, you can do really well. 0h, and the ice cream was on sale, too.

Hey guys I'm back from the doctor.

My dad's side of the family has officially pizzed me off. I texted my mom and asked her just to kill me when she gets home. I got a big LOL from her. I told her it's her fault for sleeping with my dad and making me related to these people.

I don't spend that much money on food either Nagi. I think we spend approx $200 a month or something like that on groceries. It's because I buy a lot of fresh produce and meat and cook almost every day. We usually do chinese takeout or pizza once a week for about $20 or something.

I used this meal cost calculator thingy http://sensetosave.com/frugal-tools/recipecostcalc/ and realized it only costs me like 3.00 - 5.00 to make most of my meals and they usually leave leftovers for lunch the next day. Cool huh?

That's minus the occasional trip to Friendly's or *gasp* Mickey D's :star:

We don't have that much money and there's a baby on the way. Plus I think fresh food cooked from scratch is better than anything prepared that I could buy. I don't buy them the normal "kid junk" most parents buy their kids. I always keep a box of sugary cereal (like Capn Crunch) in the house for weekends but most of the time it's oatmeal, farina, eggs, bagels, cheerios or corn flakes or something like that for breakfast, sandwiches or leftovers for lunch (yesterday I made pizzas out of little bagels :) ) and then whatever I decide to make for dinner.

Trust me, they have snacks though. Crackers and cheese, fruit, homemade cookies, tortilla chips, pretzels, raisins, and there's a stash of granola bars in the cabinet that they can't reach or they'd be gone already. Joe weighs 51 lbs already and Jon weighs 44. I would say they're well nourished, maybe too much

you've gotta teach my wife how to shop for food ... she spends 4x your food budget each month ...

she just doesn't know how to eat healthy ... well ... and on a budget.

I think it's the type of food I cook also. I use a lot of rice (I buy it in the big 25lb bags at BJs or Costco) and we eat mostly chicken (legs, thighs occasionally breasts if they're on sale), and then whatever other meat is on sale I buy it and then plan my meals with that. (it's not always healthy, last week I made fried chicken  with homemade french fries, white rice & salad).

I think you just have to buy what's on sale and then work your meals around that. As far as veggies go, they're usually cheap enough - I go to a supermarket which specializes in produce and it's always inexpensive.

I don't use coupons either, unless they're for like cereal, shampoo or conditioner, soap and stuff or baby items. The coupons they offer for food normally is for stuff I don't buy. Once and a while I'll clip a coupon or print one off the computer. I like clean and clear so I print those coupons.

BTW Puerto Rico IS expensive. I lived there in 2006. I hated Ralph's, what a ripoff. However, we still never spent that much on groceries.

let's just say ... she eats expensive ....

I need to start rustling cattle or hunting for a living to satisfy the carnivorous diet. Maybe this is a Brazilian thing ... don't know.

Maybe some other Brazilians will share thoughts on their dietary meat consumption ....

Hey!

If you have a butcher nearby get package deals... we do it in the summer all the time for the frequent BBQs. You spend around $100 or so and get A TON of meat. Then I bring it home, separate it, put it in ziploc freezer bags with the date on it. It works out SO much cheaper than the supermarket if you buy it like that.

We have no need for it during the winter/fall season. Once BBQ season rolls around it's a whole nother story.

She probably needs her churrascos :)

Night everybody!! :star: See you guys mañana
